Wish they would sink it. That would give the pirates something to think about in future when they try the ransom scheme. All paying it of and playing around does is set the stage for the next time.

starving them out would get some humanitarian group involved, delaying any resolution. Much better to sink it and show those scumbags some reality, maybe they will think before the next attempt.

You guys are right, as said above its to late to do that.

First they should stop letting little boats run out to this thing, start machine gunning them. Then tell the pirates they have 24 hours to surrender or the ship will be sunk.

One team swims under the ship at night -- between 2-3 AM, after the watch has been changed and the off-duty guards have time to get to sound sleep and the on duty guards settle down. Underwater team set charges in the cooling water intakes of the engines and generators.

Another team begins scaling the ship from side opposite the pier and over the fantail.

Underwater team moves to head of pier and sets charges to destroy shore power.

Boom. Ship begins to settle as engine room floods and lights go out from flooded generators. Everybody freaks out, "We all gonna die!"

Snipers pick-off everybody on deck as a team moves up the gangway and the other teams come over the railing. Combat forces arrive in force to secure the approaches to the pier and other nearby ships as necessary.

Cobra helicopters and a Specter gunship orbit the area with big hammers. They destroy anything that looks like a threat.

Teams systematically move through the ship killing everybody who has a gun (they can do this because they have been training various assault tactics and scenarios on a sister ship and know this ships deck plan.)

Survivors and dead hostages are packed-up and loaded into Zodiacs for transport.

Time = 45 minutes.

Extraction of combat teams takes another 1/2 hr.

Or have a sub slam a MK48 ADCAP into her side and blame the explosion on the pirates for ****ing with the cargo.

The ship I was on got "attacked" several times by SEALS. We were a vessel with about 1k marines on board and the UDT/SEALs (back then) usually "sank" us when we were in port. Even when we knew they were coming. It's embarrassing.

Given that over 30 years have passed, I don't doubt that their methods have improved. I wouldn't want to be tied to a pier in port as a SEAL target. If they want you, you're dead meat unless you have big search lights, clear water, and walk around the weather decks dropping explosives randomly. Those sneaky folks have probably worked around that one, too.

I wouldn't be surprised if they (whomever it may be) already had a person aboard gathering intel for the pending ass whoopin.
