My stepson builds replicas. They’ve evolved into far from original, but just smoke the real deals. Great story. His mom and I got him an old GTO for $350 to get him off his bike. Maybe I actually got it for his mom, but he built that into a monster and then learned custom painting. Finally wound up restoring Dick Smith’s car -Dick's #198 - and things took off for him. He just had a cancellation for a complete car so if you can deal with frustration (he takes forever) give him a call.

That's damn impressive!

If he can deal with my lack of money, I can deal with his time table.

Boy, those are cool. I always wondered about those replicars. If you buy one, what do you get, boxes full of parts that you assemble yourself?

Anybody here ever bought one of those?

My understanding was you can buy them in various stages of build from pieces in a box too turn key ready. A next door neighbor of a friend of mine has a Cobra Jet. He is a retired pilot and loves cars. He put a balanced engine up front and it is a monster. Took me for a spin in it and it is wicked fast. I can hardly sit in it though . The cross member for the dash is too low (I had to sit lock legged or cross legged and the top of windshield is to low (I'm 6'4") so it was not a very comfortable ride. Another dream crushed. The car was wicked fast and got lots of attention. The sound out of the side pipes was just evil Maybe when I get rich I can have one custom built for my frame .... yea .. that's the ticket .. yea..........

I just checked the price on them. I guess I'll continue to admire them from afar for the time being . . . . $70,000.00 was about what mine would run. That's with a polished aluminum body, though. That one option runs $16,000.00 by itself.
