Must be nice. I split my wood and heat my house with it to SAVE money.

I'd like to do it his way, but only for my lodge-style log vacation home.

BTW I have to rent a truck to go and pick up about 6 cords worth of rounds to be split. All for free except for truck rental.

That's my goal, if I wasn't such a procrastinator I'd be there now.

Log homes are sweet. It's always been my dream to build one up in the ME woods.

It would be cool to have the time/money to build a log cabin yourself with logs cleared from the 40+ acres.

I just noticed this from the Aspen log home link I posted earlier:

Quote:
Why now is the time to build a log cabin, We have Lenders with Loan Money, no problem here.

Customer lost his loan - - deep discount on this package (click)

With all of the problems in the log home industry, Were still here and going strong!!
Very convincing statements ... where do I sign?

I love cutting wood but when my wood pile gets low I really start liking my pellet stove.

When we were little my dad used us to pick up, move and stack the wood. IE slave labor.

Log splitters are a great thing.

If I posted a picture of my log splitter she would kill me, for 105lbs she shreds those logs.

The new log splitter was actually my mother's Christmas present. The odd thing is that she's very excited about it.

I've got a manual hydralic splitter, works a treat. I paid $99 for mine at a Cummins tool show. I think Cummins is out of business now but I still see the splitters around. I've split ~5 cords with mine now, mostly red oak but some pine as well. Not as fast as a powered splitter but better than using the axe...

Actually, I went to several stores in an effort to purchase a manually operated hydraulic splitter and all anyone had in stock were electric and gas splitters. The electric splitter was $299 and the cheapest gas splitter was $749.

I saw some manual hydraulic splitters online for $90 - $150. I may order one of those once I start getting tree chunks from my landscaper buddies that don't want to make a living on splitting firewood from the trees they cut down.

I do like to use the hand tools though ... with assistance from my chainsaw of course.

I used my chainsaw to cut slits in the knotted rounds and then used a cone wedge with the sledge hammer to finish it off. It worked great for most of the knotted ones, but a couple needed to be cut completely with the chainsaw.
