Voted early today

The lovely Mrs. and I voted today at the grocery store. There were about twenty folks in line and six or so booths running. We were in and out in record time. As of this morning the early voting turnout was already equal to an average year using the usual voting methods.

I wouldn't be surprised if turn out is double the old record here.

There was a lady next to the mrs who was 45 or so who said loudly "What do I do now? I have never voted before! A pole worker came over....then the lady said is this right? The pole worker said, do you want to vote libertarian....the lady said "I don't know, but I know who I want to vote for for president!"

and so forth. We don't know who she voted for but I suspect being her first time and all she was voting for "Change".

Or not. Who knows she might have been a racist.

However it ends up, there are going to be a lot of people crawling out of the woodwork on this one. It is clearly not a "normal" election- there is a lot of passion out there.....

I'm a sworn polling place worker in NC. I would not be surprised if you see MORE VOTES THAN REGISTERED VOTERS in more than 50 counties nationwide.

There is one of the many talk radio host/pundits, by the name of Neal Boortz. He's a lawyer by training, and supports a competence test for voter registration. The more we hear stories like yours, the more it sounds like a good idea.

I would be very surprised if there is any county that has more votes than registered voters.

However ignorant they may be, everybofy has a right to vote.....just as we all have the right to screw up our own lives.

wow, a loudmouth and a bloodsucker, yeah, lets listen to him.

The lady was registered and knew who she wanted for president, What is the issue here?? Is it because she couldn't operate the voting machine? Is mechanical aptitude a voter requirement? Kudos to her for braving the unknown and voting for the first time.

I ran out before lunch today and figured it would take about an hour when it actually took about 2-1/2 hours. Thankfully there was a room where we could sit while waiting to be called and it was interesting watching the folks come through. You could tell it was alot of them's first time and a good part of them looked like they did not have sense enough to get out of the rain. I figure that the reason it took so long was because most of these "no child left behind" generation struggled with the constitutional amendments that they were voting on. Reading and having to think about what they had read was a stretch for them.

A sign the end is near....

I thought today when I saw Mac appearing with "Joe the plumber".....if he is doing that he must be absolutely desparate!

In other news.....Joe the plumber has hired his own publicity team. He has decided not to record a country music song but is working on a book deal.

Absentee Ballot

We registered for them in September at the County Registrar's office...
7 days later the postal service lady slipped them in the mailbox.
We finally got around to filling them out Thursday night.
I went to the Registrars office about Noon Today to drop them off...
There were 400 people in line waiting to Vote Early...
I walked to the front and turned in the Ballots. Three minutes total.

In Georgia you may apply for an Absentee Ballot without any reason.
Since,as a part of your application, you've already shown Voter registration
and I.D. to the Registrar...there's no waiting to turn in Absentee Ballots.
(Or you could mail them in, to arrive before the Election.)

The Registrar here told me that they were still getting calls from
service people in Iraq and Afghanistan requesting Ballots be mailed...
The service people will get their ballots and they will be counted...
Even though the Ballots will not get back until after the election.
