No more affirmative action?

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska voters have approved a ban on government-sponsored affirmative action.

The constitutional amendment approved Tuesday bars bar state and local governments from giving preferential treatment to people on the basis of race, sex, ethnicity or national origin.

California, Michigan and Washington already have similar bans. Colorado voters were deciding another such initiative Tuesday.

A pending lawsuit in a Nebraska court could derail the ban. It challenges the validity of signatures that put the question to a vote.

Guess it's time for this eh?

Maybe, but if so, the ban doesn't go far enough in my opinion. What about regional origin or economic position, sexual orientation, or disability?

If that was an accurate description of affirmative action, then it would have been a good reason to abolish it long ago. The original post in this thread implies that something has changed to make the abolition of AA appropriate at this time. I was wondering what change he meant.

The affirmative action of the majority of voters putting a semi-white into the presidency is evidence that degree of non-whiteness is not an issue to the majority of voters.

I could not have put it better had I said it twice so there is no cogent reason to say it twice.

I think the majority of the voters voted for him because he was black, and had little no mention whatsoever by the mainstream media as being a bi-racial candidate.

It was always "the first black" candidate.

Not that I really care one way ot the other, it's just strange how this all plays out that Obama would not admit to being half black , half white.

Maybe he did and I just have not heard him say it, but to someone who did not watch the news every day or listen to the radio, they would swear Obama was a black man.

It's almost that Obama and the media both would love to put to rest the fact that he is actually half white.

I am trying to put myself in his shoes.

Okay I am half black , half white clearly that that makes me bi-racial.

I look unmistakenly black which would make it hard for me to get people to believe I was white so I consider myself a black man.

But I'm still half white.

Should I be ashamed of that?

Is Obama ashamed of that?

Does it really matter at this point?

I guess it depends on the winds of politics especially if they turn in an ugly direction.

Is he Muslim?

Is he Chrsitian?

Are his terrorist buddies reformed?

I guess we will see who Obama really is as time moves forward and we will see if his magic wand of change will have the same effect on the rest of the world as it did on America.

Whatever that was.

How isn't it discrimination? Reverse discrimination is still discrimination.

Affirmative action is an oxymoron! Government sponsored racism is right! If you want something work for it like everyone else, no unfair advantage.
Minorities can't play that card and get away with it anymore can they?
Let's really level the playing field and see who can play the game, shall we?

Either that or admit that it is true and they cannot get ahead without a handicap.

He couldn't as effectively begged for votes if he talked up his "whiteness". The minorities would have been put off by those remarks. He either had to be white or black, but to admit to the truth (bi-racial) was out!
