There is no shortage of ex-military types with plenty of training and combat experience willing to do this work, and for much more pay than they are used to with far less risk. The "security" firms, private armies, whatever will make a lot of money. RT

Almost sounds like the start to "Mega-corporations"

Let's just hope those ships have satellite Web hookup or we're not going to be hearing too much from Howie.

With my neck fixed that may be on the table in the near future. although I think Marine and Coast Guard trained guys are going to be first pick for this mission.

Easy bet.

But it will be whomever Blackwater has available with the right kinds of quals. 3 guys with a .50 cal. and small arms could rotate the watch and do the job.

Were on the same page, I meant to say ex-Marines but from what I'm told there is not such thing, if the mission does bud into anything Marines pounding the sand working roadblocks will be knocking on Blackwaters door for sure. The question is how long and prosperous of a mission will it be, the shipping companies are tight on the purse strings.

Blackwater has to pitch a business plan that is more cost-effective than what the insurance companies will charge -OR- the additional expense involved with traveling under Africa instead of over it. I'd have to think that Egypt's Suez Canal company would be a potential business partner in this as they stand to lose all kinds of money if shipping is forced to take the long way around.

Somebody in Suez has a business partner in Mogadishu.

This could be a win/win for that guy.

Yep. He was on CNN last night saying he had tentative contracts with 67 companies. Only problem seems that I thought I heard him say he ain't got no boats and will have to have them built, which will take a while (pray Halter gets the contract)

Achieve legitimacy? That's pretty pious, Sir cmac.

That seems odd, unless they're also going through the Straits of Molucca.

I mean, a quick look at a map shows a short trip from the Suez down the Red Sea and around the Horn of Africa. I doubt there's a piracy problem above Djibouti. If that takes a week to get from Djibouti to some distance away from Mogadishu it's because the ship is moving slow.

17 crew members. That's 3, 5 man watches (8 hrs) per day and a C.O. and X.O. of the detachment. If there's an incident you have 8 men port and starboard, divided 4 man fore and aft and the C.O. with the ship's captain.

No pirates would be able to get past those guys without inside help.

Armed men and targeted missiles on the ships is the way to go... not armed escort vessels.
