Very few drivers will pass on a two lane at night unless they know the road. It's challenging........depending on the available horsepower and having a plan.

I've found myself in the SDL on occasion taking some risks passing 55 mph traffic due to lack of knowledge of the road.

The morons behind you want to go faster...........but, will never pass you to do so.

I don't think I ever had anyone pass me at night when I'm doing 60 on a two lane (+5).

Only the tires...

Having a lot of HP helps, if I had say an F430 or E63 I'd get in trouble. Point and shoot around the slow guys.

On two lane roads the S600 always has plenty of room to pass.

With the SDL passing has to be planed.

Make the decision before the last oncoming car gets to you.

Be 5 lengths behind vehicle to be passed.

5 seconds before oncoming vehicle reaches you...........4-3 downshift and mash pedal.

You're doing 65 by the time you reach vehicle to be passed.

Move into oncoming lane and finish pass in about 7 seconds additional.

Exactly. You want to minimize the amount of time you spend aside the vehicle you are passing, as your options to evade oncoming traffic are limited at that moment.

Seriously, I know. I hate to be already going 10-15 mph above the posted speed limit and have a jerk right on my bumper.

The other day I was disappointed because I was on my way home from work. I was in my Lexus LS400. I was being tailed by a rollback with his lights flashing. I was on a 2-lane and on a road where I could not pull off and he was literally about to push me. I was going 45 in a 35. PO'ed and guessing I needed to get out of his way and get up to where the shoulder was, I felt I had no other choice, so I punched it (well about 1/2 way and got up to 65 pretty fast) and left him setting way back, but had to slow down when I got to the car in front of me. Had I been in my 300SEL, it would have been more of a task. Finally, he caught back up and I got over to the right as far as I could, but he wanted in the right lane, because he was getting off of the exit to get on another highway. For some reason, around here, the rollback/wrecker drivers drive like idiots around here, whether they have their lights on it not. They are not in that big of a hurry - unless a car is hanging off of a cliff or something, which is highly unlikely and especially its not the case all of the time.

I'll always remember this one.

2 lane highway (Merit Parkway style) I'm in the right lane just cruising (65) Hyundai in the left lane is going slow and i'm catching up to it (On an uphill slope) Now I would have been fine cruising past said Hyundai and in fact if I see someone blocking the left lane like that i'll often speed up to pass them in order to benefit everyone. However when the lady in the Subaru came up behind me lights flashing and horn blaring in the RIGHT lane I instantly got off the gas.

If your going to flash and horn someone, do it to the person whos actually blocking traffic. Now normally I wouldn't do anything to provoke in any way....but there was a light coming up and the end of the expressway and this one was asking for it. So the game started where I would look to be passing the Hyundai and she would pull in behind me....only i'd let off the gas and she'd pull in behind the Hyundai and i'd slowly accelerate again only to watch her pull behind me again. At this point it was the top of the hill and I pulled my party piece cornering. Full sharp left turn while accelerating vs everyone else hitting the brakes. I made the green light, she got stuck at the red

Oh I always do that to jerks who try to pass on the right. The trick is to speed up enough to give them hope, but not enough room to get around you.

I'm trying to educate them on how the left lane is for passing.

I get the same situation on the LIE..........three lane expressway.

Rather interesting, actually.

Left lane has the usual $hitboxes doing about 64 mph.

I usually run the center lane and run about 67 mph and generally pass the $hitboxes.........rather slowly. Right lane is the empty lane or the slow lane (60 mph, typically).

So, what does the typical box truck do when he wants to go 80 mph? He's not allowed to use the left, so he'll sit on whomever is the best target in the center or the right. I'm not moving to the right lane to slow to 60..........just so he can do 80 in the middle lane. Therefore, we've got a problem. He's going to live there until he can move right and pass me. And, he'll do it if he can find 10 car lengths of space...........mash it up to 80.........swing right..........pass me..........and swing left right back in front of me before he hits the next car in the right (going 60).

There's really no stopping them...........they're going 80...........no matter what.

I saw a big Ryder rental truck get nailed by the CT state cops doing just that. He was riding me in the center, I wasn't about to get stuck behind grandma doing 55 in the right, and their was traffic ahead of me so I'm not moving. He went left. I was like thats dumb, Barney Fife is probably sitting right around the corner before exit 42. And sure enough no sooner does the truck get into the left than Barney comes into view with his radar/lasser gun at the ready. He locks onto his target like an AMRAAM and they have a nice little chat about the rules of the road.

I was laughing pretty hard.

Ohh........that's excellent. That would have made my week...........these DB's usually get away with borderline attempted murder and there's little we can do about it.

Well driving on I95 north or south, between the 91 merge and Bridgeport it's a bad area to do anything. The state police have been out in force for the past month. I'll only do 65 in the center lane, no more. They have SUV's and Chargers to!

I have seen a lot of people get pinched.

Some are also useing the Ford 500. I'm very good at spotting unmarked cars. The only one that ever gives me trouble are Dodge Intrepids.
