Better than hauling bits in a bucket but not by much, WildBlue underdelivers again:

But, some of this may be my wireless. The router is 375 feet away at the wellhouse, hanging under the eave in Ziploc freezer bag. Between the marginal antenna placement and this Faraday Cage of a house, I'm only getting about 40-50% signal strength.

I have a new open source wireless router with a 9dB gain antenna just waiting for me to install...

I'll have to try mine out at home on that site. I line in the sticks and I can't get DSL because the phone lines date back to the 50's. I don't want cable so I ended up with clearwire.

Here at work it's:

55525 down and 27017 up... I get spoiled.

I'm thankful for my DSL and probably would not live in an area without good broadband since I need it for work, the biggest problem with your wild blue is the ping (latentcy) which is god aweful. Have you checked with your cellular carriers for wimax, evdo or 3g?

That latency has to be the 22k miles to the satellite.

We basically are on the edge of the known universe so, cellular is spotty at the best of times. The only options then are satellite and wireless ISP LOS from various towers. None of the wireless broadband outfits wanted to play ball in a reasonable fashion (ie: everyone wanted $500+ for a POS tower that could make it LOS because we're in a low area) and I've heard horror stories about HughesNet so, I chose WildBlue.

Lesser of all evils.
