I passed TWO of them on the highway yesterday. I was cruising along at 80mph in the shop Ford Powerjoke and they were buzzing along at 65 in a 75 zone.

75 zone. Must be nice to live in the West.
Or was that a "Jersey" 75 zone (aka any four lane divided hiway with a posted speed limit of 45 or higher.)
There are no roads in NJ where 75 is a legal speed.
Way too much congestion.

An actual honest to goodness 75mph zone.

Most highways through the city are 55 or 65mph zones, but everyone drives 70mph. CDOT actually raised the 55mph speed limit in several areas recently because of the shear number of speeders averaging 69.8mph..

Outside of the city is where it goes up to 75.

Freeway driving isn't really even in the picture for me with one of these things. That's what the Lexus is for(let's not go THERE) And the whole image thing(chick car, gay car) doesn't mean a damn thing to me either. To base a car purchase on that kind of thing, well, I won't go THERE.
But yeah, they do need to get the diesel version here in the states. Someday this country will wake up and figure stuff like that out. Heck, look how long it took just to get the Smart here in the first place. Guess GM hasn't sold enough overstuffed SUV's yet.
Not really sure I'd actually go out and buy a Smart, what the heck, I used to drive an AMC Hornet. In fact I've never even given them a second thought until my friend got one. I''ll just wait and see how long he keeps it, and how it holds up for him. He goes thru cars fast if they're a POS. Didn't keep his Audi A6 for even a year.

I saw one last night here in Lafayette. I remarked to the Mrs. that I would like to get one on the autocross course if it wouldn't tip over. With that short wheel base the tight turns would seem like freeway ramps!

Yeah, a cuz of mine has a Mini. Fun, but rides like a lumber wagon. An OLD lumber wagon. My back is too old for driving something like that. The Smart is a bit on the mushy side, just right for an old fart like me
