No snow tires in Ontario!

I have been looking for snow tires for my pick-up and there are basically none left in Ontario. Our neighbouring province Quebec, has a new law that all cars must have snow tires (in the winter, I imagine) so the manufacturers have sent most of the tires there. I have looked at local tire shops, Costco, and even, god forbid, Walmart. Nothing. Even people selling used tires on Craigslist have picked up on this and adds usually say the price is FIRM. In the end I think I will buy used on Craigslist, but look for an ad where they just want a quick sale and a reasonable price.

That's where I got mine, after running into the same problem 3 weeks ago. They'll be delivered in 3 business days. Tire Rack collects all taxes and customs fees right up front so you don't have to be home to meet the shipment and pay anything extra. Even with an 80 cent dollar, shipping, and having to pay someone to mount and balance the tires, the pricing works out pretty much the same as buying from a local retailer.

I tried to keep my money in the local market, but after being told "we're backordered" by four shops, I gave up.

I really can't believe that Quebec requires snow tires. I bet the politicians line their pockets with Michelin rubber.

Why not make the short drive over the border into NY; I'm certain that our retailers would welcome the business.

I know tire rack is a sponser of this site. I looked at the prices and they look really good. New tires for less than a 4 year old set someone is trying sell on craigslist (the same tire!)

The reason I didn't go that route is because of shipping. They ship UPS. BE VERY CAREFUL WITH UPS!! I can guarantee you they will want extra money at the door. If you decide to pay this, make sure to get a recipit. I have had to threaten legal action against them several times, and they have sent false claims against me to collections. A quick look at thier rip-off schedule shows that they will want about $40 for brokerage fees, not the $20 quoted.

I hope it will go ok. Make sure anyone answering the door knows to not give money. If you refuse, they will most likely just leave the package. It is just a way to make a few more quick bucks. I even suspect that the drivers pocket some of the money.

Let me know how it goes.

As for me, I actually found a set at the local Canadian tire. It's a small town so I guess they haven't seen a big rush.

It didn't happen to me. They left the tires in the garage, as instructed. All fees (taxes, shipping, duty) were collected by tire rack and they provided a receipt for it. No requests for extra money. It might have been the easiest on line transaction I've ever done.

Glad you found a set, regardless.

I actually support this law Kuan. If you drove around Québec enough, and its drivers, you'd know that any law making at least their vehicles safer is a good one.

(Being born Québequois, I fully reserve the right to chastise them/us).

Good to hear. I had a few bad experiances. They have since been sued in a class action suit so maybe they have changed their ways.
