Why don't the bird lovers say anything about roadkill?

Just my opinion mind you, but wouldn't you want those answerable to voters to be making the laws? Zoning by variance absent a relevant zoning ordinance is bad governance.
Thanks, that makes sense, I agree

My stand on wind power is that we need power from somewhere, and wind , in my opinion, is one of the least harmful ways to produce it.

The local power company is proposing to build a wind farm in Lake Ontario more than a mile off-shore. There is of course opposition.

what would they prefer? A coal fired power plant?

Can't say for sure but I've read many times that the earlier, smaller windmills, such as the well known installation on Altamont Pass in CA-CA are much harder on birds than the newer large models. The smaller ones move much faster and slice and dice pretty regularly.

The ones near here turn 18 rpm. All the same speed all the time....or not turning at all it seems.

True dat.

But the vultures caught eating the RK or (at least here) the seagulls eating their prey are not uncommon victims on the road. I think I've gotten one or two myself over the years.

Ever see a seagull drop a clam to a hard surface to break the shell, then swoop down and eat it?

I believe the original issue with birds on windmills were when the old ones out west had lattice towers. The birds would perch on them. Then when they took off they would get shredded.

But now with the new pole design (I'm not sure of the term for this) the birds can no longer perch on them so only the occasional passing bird gets shredded.

I can personally attest to the noise factor. I believe currently MN is 2nd in the nation for power produced from wind generators. I have been underneath and inside the towers. The noise factor is negligable.

Today they were still on the way north and on the way back as well. Very disappointing.
