Most every huge engineering enterprise winds up over budget. That doesn't stop them from being built. It's not just about making money, it's also about providing energy. Not something without which civilization can flourish.

Tell me of another industry that would be profitable except for protests by the dreaded eco-freaks, a crowd that, as we can all agree, have absolutely no rights in this country or anywhere for that matter.
They have rights unfortunately which elevates whackjobs to the level of considered thinkers with consequently unfortunate effects on civilization. Such as the woefully inadequate number of oil refinaries in the US. Especially in places like Californie where these retards have prohibited construction of new installations for decades now.

Where does France stash its nuclear waste?
I don't know. Obviously they don't have the problems with it you seem to see at every turn. Or 80 percent of their generating capacity would not be nuclear now would it?

I doubt that there are any ways to spin a generator that are without some environmental impact that someone would find objectionable.
We have a hydro-electric plant a few miles from my house. Its basically free energy; run remotely from Philadelphia with 2 people on-site. It has been equipped with a fish ladder to allow fish to go upstream as demanded by environmentalists. And yet, there are those who still protest the effects of damming a river.

Nuclear is not perfect, but it is part of the solution, as is coal, natural gas, tidal, wind, and solar.

We just need to find an endless supply of the dilithium crystals that powered the Starship Enterprise.
Missing from your list of solutions is reducing our consumption of energy.
I think that has to be at least part of the answer, if not a large part.

Thanks for calling me ignorant.
Can you have a conversation with someone without devolving it into name calling ???

If being ignorant is insulting then every student on Earth is insulted. Ignorance is not incurable, stupid is. Most of the time there's a difference that even ignorant people understand. Though stupid ones probably can't.

I was only considering energy generation. Yes, conservation also plays a part.

I used to rely on the government and other people to change things.

I could have become one of the nutcase protesters that just complain but do nothing else.

I have decided it is up to me to change things.
So I did.
We now buy our electricity from a company that produces it strictly from wind power.
I pay a little extra but it is worth it to me.

I run my vehicles on veggie oil, and veggie blends.
I recycle most everyting I can.
I am composting, and starting a garden.
Many other little things.

Other people see the things I do and they are atracted to the lifestyle and start making changes themselves.

Shutting up and making the changes myself has helped way more than complaining to others.

Rich,

Are you paying the road-use taxes on your veggie fuel?

Not accusing; just asking. I don't even know if your state uses the fuel taxes for Road-use.. here in MD they do.

We dont have to pay road use tax on veggie here in Texas.

The laws were just passed a few months ago.

But the Texas Comission on Environmental Quality lumps veggie and biodiesel together
and says neither can be run in vehicles because it polutes more than diesel.

Strange hodge podge of rules down here.

How are the rules where you are ?

Maryland in neighbor to DC with a mindset like California. Little freedom the the "Free state".
The Law is ambiguous, but the regulators operate under the assumption that if it is not an approved motor fuel, is it illegal.

There are accusations that France buries its nuke waste in African countries that can be bribed to take it. No proof that I know of on that. But France isn't that large and densely populated. Disposing of it in country could be tough.

You assume that the level of energy use we "enjoy" in the US today is actually beneficial to us. We're getting fatter, we spend un-godly amounts of time commuting, and we have noise and air pollution all about.

Just 20 or 30 years ago, auto purists we're screaming that this damned, new-fangled pollution control equipment would ruin engines, would make cars too slow, etc. Oh well. What notion do we hold sacred now that we will someday chuckle about?

If there is no proof, why mention it? This is guilt by innuendo.
