How about you, have you donated yet?

You will have to talk to your buddy SRJ about my new nickname, it was all his idea.

Anyone up on Berkshire-Hathaway Inc.'s majority shareholder Warren Buffett, would know that he has pledged in the neighborhood of close to $40,000,000,000.00 billion dollars of his personal fortune to charity.

Last year he gave $1.8 billion dollars away.

A lot more than the envious here and elsewhere could ever possibly give - even if they did give..

What I give or don't give, is my personal business.

And what Buffet gives is his business.

Thanks guys, I'm not interested in the details of anyone's charitable giving and I'm not going to discuss mine either. I'm just trying to encourage everyone to do what they think is right.

He made a public announcement several years ago that he was giving the majority of his wealth to Bill Gate's charity, if I remember correctly. He is leaving his children a relatively modest inheritance, which is probably a very good idea.

Im not sure why anyone would be particularly envious, but he does seem to have an unusually "grounded" life for a gazilionare.

My compassion for others is wearing thin, I give and give and get very little in return. Talk about a bad investment.

If you're not getting a return then you haven't made an investment.

I'd like to know more about the study itself. I think it's possible that conservatives might give more to charity than liberals but I suspect the data is skewed. Conservatives tend to be more religious than liberals and I'm betting that a considerable portion of the charitable giving in the study was to churches since they are non-profit institutions. Most of that money goes top pay for minister/priests/bishops/secretaries salaries and building maintenance and upkeep. I would not consider that 'charitable giving' in the same way as a donation to the Red Cross is charitable giving. Many churches in my experience do give a portion of their income to relief, disaster and the needy poor but that is a small percentage of their overall budget compared to something like the Red Cross or Red Crescent.
In addition, many if not all religions have a religious duty to give money to the institution which produces a strong social expectation and sanction that does not exist for non-church members.
In other words, a substantial portion of giving to churches amounts to tax deductible union dues and shouldn't really be factored into the 'charitable giving'. Perhaps it wasn't, but I suspect it was. Anyone have the details on the study?
While you can claim responsibility for starting the resurrection, you certainly can't now claim that you did so completely ignoring the subsequent contributions of your respondent fellow travelers can you? It would seem disingenuous at best if after having ended your post with a question, to later deny them equal credit as if their contribution where un-anticipatable rather than what was in truth inevitability.

Things must be mighty slow at the philosopher’s café if you’re reduced once again to arguing semantic hair splitting here with the unenlightened?

"I feel this way usually right after I finish disparaging and questioning the contributions of others, because I think someone will benefit from my encouragement of others to do what they think is right even though I don’t have any idea whether they’ve ever done what they think is right all along and possibly did so way before I ever did! Love Craig!"

Are we counting that as "charity" too?
