Rant: Radio/TV talk show BUZZ words .

Am I singularly alone in thinking all these "Wanna be Correct " brigade are getting on my nerves.

'Issue' = 'Problem' is the word. Unless used in cases of where issues are relevant.

'Closure' = End. Nuff' said.

Anyone else call to mind words or phrases that tick you off ?

' BLOG.' Crappy writing. Here's some one who shares my sentiments.

Feel free to add you own 'issues' with words.

Public radio seems to be the worst offender....or should that be...have the most issues!

Not just radio but people in general seem to use the word "absolutely" far, far, FAR too much! I can't tell you how much I hate that word now. Just listen to people talk some time and you find that it seems to be the universal agreement word.

I don't know if this fits in this topic, But I was watching pre game football show, and those guys said the word Maturation about 40 times within 10 minuets. I thought to myself, if they say Maturation one more time I am going to kick them in the nuts.

Another word I hate is "Actually". There is this person I know and everytime we talk about something he says well "Actually". I feel telling him, you can Actually kiss my ass.

Hell's Bells...looks like I stirred up a hornets nest !

Didn't realize so many of you thought the same.

Why is it no one ever says anything to these idiots who use this kind of language? I have, at times, asked people exactly what they mean, but they look at me as though I'm talking another language.

keep it coming...I'm beginning to feel less alone

Here's another one. I hate when newscasters all the sudden get foriegn accents when they talk about foriegn countries like Nicaragua.

Here's a little trick they started back when Nixon was first getting a hard-one for China...

AP used to send, over the wire, a pronounciation guide for all the talking heads to use...this was what the expected "learned newscaster" was suppose to use for saying the Chinese names properly...Dung Shou Ping was one that I remembered...

Sometimes though, you'd literally would see a correction on a pronounciation that had been given to you less than an hour before...quite funny when you were taping your newscasts to run about a half hour later, and you'd see this come across the wire ("Oh chit! Will I be able to re-record before it's called for?"). Happened more than once...I would blow it off since it was usually around 3 or 4 in the morning anyways....

BTW, I went a "lil' Chinese" when I first did Dung's name the first 'cast or two...sounded pretty damn girly...I mid-western'd it up after that...

"like" is an overused word. I know girls who cannot form a complete sentance without using like at least once.

Actually, I am learning a whole new set of buzz words over at Purdue....every body seems to love certain ones so I just kindof smile to myself and try to remember to use them too.

Actually, its fairly easy for me. I think its because I have a gift for music and tonality. Picking up the local dialect is easy and fun.

I do it easily and without guilt....I figure the locals will appreciate the effort even if I get it wrong a lot of the time.
