That is awful! I know how it feels to want to listen to VINYL not a CD.
How old is the kid and what was he doing near the turntable? Mine knew not to go near the Marantz on pain of death

A good vinyl playback system beats a mediocre CD system anyday. Besides I have tons of good music on vinyl. If you listen to, say, the original Copland conducting his own Appalachian Spring on vinyl vs. the remastered CD I think you'd bow to vinyl too.

I'll take your word on that. However, how would a good vinyl system compare with a good CD system?

Vinyl feels warm and fuzzy.
CDs feel shallow and cold.

Aren't they just both discs? Of course I can fit a CD inside my jacket pocket but not vinyl.

In the 80's and early 90's most multitrack recordings were still done via analog. They were mastered to digital later. That means they were record with all the distortion of analog and later that distortion was once again approximated during the mastering process. Of course that could be minimized with good equipment like good mixing boards and good reel to reel multitrack recorders, but still, one channel biased a little hot or a drunk studio intern could severely impact the recording. Anyway in general, CD's are better for techno like stuff with heavy bass. Vinyl is better on vocals and acoustic instruments.

If the agent is a vinyl-head, maybe.

Digital is a cascade of ice cubes. Still amazes me that it works.
