how to deodorize room AC evaporator
We have a through-the-wall AC unit in one room. There's a smell coming from it. I think it smells like gym socks, the wife thinks it has that allergy sneeze smell. The evaporator looks clean but it's definitely the source of the smell. I see products for car evaporators and products that require soaking or spraying the evaporator. Are those my only choices? Is there something I can use in situ that doesn't require buckets of liquid? How about spraying with Oxi Clean solution?

I haven't had much success with any evaporator.........auto or otherwise.........unless I use bleach. Dilute it 3:1 and have at it.........kills any mold or fungus that's growing on the evap. Generally lasts at least one year or so. I'd follow up with fresh water because the bleach is corrosive to the aluminum.
