The right tool for the right job. Back in the stone age, if I needed a spreadsheet with graphing and some db capability, the choice was simple, Lotus 1-2-3 on a PC; when the job required sophisticated graphics and desktop publishing, then it was Pagemaker on a you know what . . . with a Postscript printer.

I like the Mac Mini, and I wish there were a plain XP PC of the same compact size. And the only reason I want to stay with XP is to run Quicken.

I remember those from elementary school, Dino park tycoon was my favorite game...I always maxed out the money counter.
![]() I have never been into a Mac store, but I did walk past the front of one when I was at a Casino once. I'm not interested in computers, so they have nothing to offer me. One day I might kind of want an Ipod but that hasn't happend yet.

Nah, to complicated. I'd trash that touch screen in a week, probably get chaulk or something on it.
![]() Even though my Razr is dieing it put up one hell of a fight. Lets see over the past 3 years its been: Dropped down 2 flights of stairs, dunked in salt water x2, lived around salt water, dropped in mud, dropped in snow off a chair lift, dropped at a club and stepped on, used as a hammer, used as a flashlight...thats all I can remember. One heck of a phone, slim to. From constantly being dirty the screen is all scratched up, but I can still see through it fine. My only gripe with it, and all modern cell phones is they are not powerfull enough. I'd gladly give up some features for a better antenna and wider service area.

I think your coverage problem is your phone. In my experience LG phones seem to get much better cell signal than the Motorolas....especially the Razr/Krazr....my wife has a Krazr and it sucks.
Its on its second battery and that one is dying too. My sweet LG 8350 is still working like new and its almost 1.5 years old! Battery life is still about 3-4 days of moderate use! And, it practically can beam signal through a wall of lead....I rarely lose my signal. And, it has a pretty nice MP3 player setup....so no need for a dumb iPod. Just a $4 microSD card or two.

That's my problem with PCs. I don't want to have to think about the tool. I want to think about what I'm trying to do with the tool. Maybe Macs aren't any better, but after twenty years of messing around with PCs, I'm ready to try something different.

More importantly, the 2 programs that I use are not available on Mac using the Mac interface (though if I were a complete geek I could probably get the Unix versions of the programs and run them in a different shell, but if I were to do that, why use a Mac?). In a former job a number of years ago we went all-Mac in the office and it worked ok, given the 68XXX processors and the network speed at the time. But it was a small office so speed over a LAN was less critical than nowadays. And nowadays the Macs run just fine in a mixed PC/Mac enviro. To me it doesn't matter except for ammunition in a food fight. I much, much prefer the Mac for home use. Ask any Mac zealot and they'll list the reasons. |
