I rarely use a drinking straw. I think it goes back to the food service days when it was shown that people using straws drank faster and would re-order drinks more often.

Oh, why not come out and say it. Men might feel uncomfortable with sucking on a straw because it is some sort of phallic symbol. Either that or other guys might think the guy is practicing sucking a golf ball thru a garden hose.

Who actually drinks beer with a straw, I mean, some high school girls I knew drank wine coolers with straws... come to think of it... naw, this is still a 'family' forum.

About the only thing I drink through a straw is a gin and tonic. I use the itty bitty straw they give you with it. I order them with good gin and tend to drink them too fast and not savor them if I just drink straight from the glass.

Beer, when ice cold is acceptable to drink in just about any way possible. It's all about self confidence, and/or lack of concern of those around you and how they view you.

Straws are not a problem in a milkshake or a soda in a to go cup.

Drinking coffee out of sippy cups works surprisingly well when the travel mugs are dirty

Now try conducting a presentation and taking a sip from a juice box. Now that would take some courage.

If it was all about self-confidence, then drinking through a straw "privately" wouldn't apply..........now would it?

There are certin drinks I use a straw with. Beer soda or Tea or anything like that is without a straw. If I am out to eat I use a straw. Lord knows if those glasses have even been washed.

I had braces for 8 years, so I got used to using a straw.

Sure it would- many folks are self conscious even in private. Not that it makes any difference to me or how a view a person- no judgement call here.

I'm not grasping that...........how can a person be self-conscious in private? They care what the carpet thinks.........???

If I can be honest when nobody is looking, why can't I be self conscious even when I know nobody is watching?
