Dunno. Some people feel the need to give even when they are in dire straits.

1. Life is uncertain. There is NO guarantee that simply because you have food today, you will have food tomorrow. Fortunes can and have come and gone. One day you are rich beyond avarice and the next, you are in the hole. My grand uncle was just like this guy. Only his ending wasn't as good. He lost all his money when he economy took a hiccup just as he was expanding his company. Needless to say, he lost all and if he drove a truck, we could write a country song about his life. Like the guy with a roll of C-notes, he had all the friends in the world as long as drinks were on him. When they ran out, everyone seemed to not be there. Strange, huh?

2. As to money, why keep working if you are sure you have enough for the rest of your natural life if you want to give it away? Why not quit and enjoy it while you can. Again, life is uncertain. Today you are in the pink of health and think you have all the time in the world, tomorrow you are diagnosed with cancer and have 6 months to live.

3. I give my time and money if I had it to my own. That means my wife and to my dogs and a few close friends. Simply put, it goes to those who have changed my life for the better by going above and beyond the call of duty and not simply to someone who is on the payroll unless there are some extraordinary circumstances. I'd feel more indebted to the guy I hired 10 mins ago who took a bullet for me as opposed to somebody who was on the payroll for the last 200 years. As Chase Bank's slogan goes "Chase. Where the RIGHT relationship is everything".
