Interesting lecture topic for folks in N California

What: Petroleum In the Arctic

When: Thursday, February 26, 2009

Who: Donald Gautier, Geologist

For better or worse, technological advances and diminishing opportunities elsewhere make the Artic increasingly attractive to oil and gas exploration. Retreating polar ice, shifting ecosystems, and heightened development potential are vital issues to the nations of the Artic, to petroleum companies, and to all concerned about the region's fragile environments.

Where: USGS, 345 Middlefield Road, Menlo Park, California, 94025, Conference Room A, Bldg 3, Menlo Park, California

Is this lecture one of many on this topic to be sponsored across the United States by USGS, or should we just hold one at Greenpeace's corporate headquarters and call it a day?

Nope, they're going to hold it right where Bot says it's going to be...I heard though that they intend to have a "warm-up" guest speaker...Joe Hazelwood along with a few baby harp-seals "barking" in the backround...along with the All-Alaskan-Clean-Up-Crew-Choir, singing "It's Always Blackest Before The Dawn" in hushed tones...

It should be inspiring!!!

That's right, it's a USGS presentation about how they're going to firebomb the arctic now to burn and melt everything so there's nothing to impede drilling....

And word from the alternative universe informs us that when the moon is in the Seventh House And Jupiter aligns with Mars Then peace will guide the planets And love will steer the stars.

Is that the one where EVERY TIME YOU COUGH, you feel the very same muscles aching...as if you just woke up from doing 4,000 situps and you never did a situp before?

Your diaphram, from the left side to your right side, feels like it's about to be ripped from your middle and you wonder WHY you HAVEN'T COUGHED UP BLOOD YET?

THAT COLD!!!????!!!

Me too.

What brandy is best? I think I need to go buy a bottle to dump into some tea. Then try to sleep.

Hennessey? What is Corvoursier (<-----Pardon spelling) ? I was in a Food4Less store (just that once!) in the Mission district once a long time ago and this woman in line ahead bought a bottle of E & J and a huge steak.

She paid for it with food stamps!!! Can they do that? (obviously she did)

Even my EYES hurt from this cold. My sneezes are juicy, terrible. Gah. the rain is pounding down outside and forecast that way to the end of the week.

You have a cold? Don't waste money on good brandy. Go cheap -- you'll hardly notice a difference.

Forget about Brandy...a mixture of Bourbon, Honey and Lemon Juice will fix you up just right. Burns it out and soothes the throat. It's an old hillbilly/redneck thing. Drink enough of it and you won't care if you feel bad...

That's true. If your sinuses are clogged you won't be able to appreciate the expensive stuff. Try a little hot black coffee with anisette.

Anisette .... I had a moment with that one time. But in memory I can't differentiate anisette from the flavor of ouzo through the nose.
