Maybe you should include a sub 1k option.

When I tagged the Under 6500 option...I didn't realize it was going to get there so soon!

I was waiting for two funds to drop below a certain point in my 401(k) plan (now, a 160.4(d) (as in 40% of what I started out with and dead!)), but now I might just wait a few more days/weeks to see if there's a bottom in sight...yet!

They call it a fool's rally. The repurcussions from the 650k+ new unemployments claims last month won't show up for a couple few more months when they can no longer make their house payment. All those traders that bought today will dump by Friday and take their profit. Give it a little more time before you jump in with both feet in my opinion. Any company (citi) could be profitable if the gov't gives them millions/billions of $ of taxpayer money.

Thought I would dig up this "old" thread. Looks like we made it over 6500... My main question today is what is going to happen with oil prices. I know there are a couple serious traders out there. It seems a lot of the rise might be due simply to a weak dollar. I don't know much about the supply side. Demand should be only moderate I would think. I wonder if we will see a pump-and-dump of the oil price.

Demand is still very low. Its the weak dollar thats causing this.

Oil needs to stay reasonable or the economy is going to drop off a cliff again. Gas needs to stay under $3 a gallon or were in trouble.

I agree with your first statement. But I think the threshold of major pain is around 4.00/gal. I still remember watching the news in 1978 I think, and they were intreviewing someone about gas prices and this one guy says "I won't buy gas if it goes over 1.00/gal." Maybe he did what he said! But I doubt it.

As long as the dollar falls, oil will rise. Hedge funds are taking huge positions in crude in order to hedge the falling dollar, so you got the classical formula for big price runups: scarcity, high demand and speculation. I think it is a good thing, the US uses oil the way junkies use heroin, and as long as heroin is cheap and plentiful, they don't go to rehab. I'd like to see oil hit $200 a barrel, gas at $6 a gallon, so we can finally get off the $hit.

I don't agree. High oil prices drive innovation, and innovation drives the economy and the job market. We could create a massive new industry just in algae based motor fuels and converting trucks to natural gas. Motor fuel is the big problem, get the US off of using crude for motor fuel, and you'll see oil prices drop like a rock. Which is why Big Oil is doing whatever it can to keep it from happening. We need to treat them the way we treated Russia in the Cold War.

The problem is that big oil has bought the government and is doing their damnest to prevent that from happening.

On that, I do agree. Perhaps you'll take the next step into Liberal Land and admit they are also destroying the planet. Come on. Walk into The Light.....
