I can't say that I don't believe green power is the answer, because its been feeding me since I was born! but I can tell you there is more to green power then wind and solar. they get the most press and then are the least effective at the moment.

My Dad lead a project to build new geothermal in the mountains east of Shasta. and the project was eventually canceled because the people of that area didn't want "Industry" in their backyard. My Dad even talked with Steven Sigal's lawyers because he had complaints about the project (he owns property up in that area).

I say good luck to all the green power people, because the "not in my backyard" mentality applies to every type of power. not just nuclear. Until people start to embrace new power plants of any color, there will be no new power plants at all and we will stay dependent on our old power solutions... Coal and Gas.

Why should I even care? You take all this silliness much too seriously. I recommend at least one hour a week of watching Sponge Bob Squarepants, it works for me.

The Indian company I mentioned (others too I'm sure) have some interesting systems where high pressure steam is used to produce electricity and the lower pressure exhaust steam is used for de-sal/purification and absorption refrigeration before it's sent back to the cooker of whatever sort is used.

The Fresnel and parabolic trough mirror systems can heat a medium (some sort of oil) to 800 to 900 F. Plenty of heat to do much work with.

Here in Cal., all of the months you would want AC are 99% cloud free. Solar can't do it all but it could do a lot.

Tempertures on my roof and in my attic can hit 150F/65C on the hot days.

And if you have the solar heat collection on the roof of the area you are trying to air condition, you have a double benifit.

The heat used does not go into warming the structure.

btw, little bro played golf in Blufton today (still w/in 30 mins of Beaufort) and reported that the no see ums were not out during the day, but appeared again en masse at 6 pm.
