Vinyl Records

Anyone still buy them??

I am 20, and while I like my iPod and all things high tech, there is no substitute for records.... (That, Mcintosh PreAmps and Amps, and either some Backloaded Horns or my old school JBL towers.)

The sound is just amazing.

Any of you guys still use the old record player? Still listen to records? Buy them???

I want to find more places that carry vinyl. Towerrecords.com still carries it, but they are a bit on the pricey side...

I know there are some audio guys out there....

I primarily buy them for my collection. I've been able to find a few LPs on eBay, still in original shrink wrapping dating from the 60's-80's for under $5 in some cases, I don't play them, the only ones I play (rarely) are ones dating from the same era, primarily used for promotion use only (VG condition). So, check eBay, and if you want to transfer some of your vinyl to Mp3, get yourself something similar to this.

When thinking of vinyl records, think of it as dragging a shovel through mud. A couple of plays and there are many pops and clicks, lets not forget skipping as well.

But damn, it sounds good for a few plays.

Vinyl records are really fun to throw. Like in Shaun of the Dead.

Vinyl will last half a thousand plays if you clean them and your stylus is well maintained. There's lots of good stuff out there, some reissues, and especially good classical box sets. Right now I have out a Project Perspective with Sumiko Blue Point Special cartridge for my vinyl. Good stuff man.

I LOVE mine!

I was an idiot in 1986. I ran out and bought an early CD player and GAVE AWAY all my albums and my nice 1960's marantz tube amp/turntable setup.

I soon regretted it and now I have a Kenwood amp with a Marantz tt.

A lot of what I had never made it onto CD.

I have been scouring the planet (ebay) for the albums I am missing...

Luckily most of mine had ended up with my brother so I raided his closet at my mother's house for them

I would not trade Vinyl for anything, especially on a tube driven amp --- ANALOG TECH ROCKS!!

That being said, I did get one of those ripper programs so that I could burn the old vinyl onto CD's for the car.

As far as CD players go, I still have my 1986 Fisher and it is still going strong. It is hooked up to an Onkyo multimedia amp I bought in the 1990's... It even has a laser disc input but it also has ProLogic Surround Sound...

My old stereo is in the basement (The "man cave"), and I listen to my vinyl albums whenever I'm down there. Many of them are out of print, and unavailable on CDs or otherwise. I am meticulous about handling, cleaning, and storing them, so they are pretty click and pop-free. I LOVE those old albums!

I didn't know you COULD still buy them. A few years ago I sold my whole Frank Zappa collection to a much younger guy with whom I worked for considerable more than I paid for them. I was amazed that he even knew who Frank Zappa was.

A lot of DJs still like to scratch and mix the "old school" way...mostly dance and underground stuff still can be had in vinyl. Pro music stores still carry DJ turntables and cartridges, and one or two consumer brands still occupy a shelf at the local Best Buy or Fry's.

Otherwise, there's a local bookstore that carries used LPs. My wife and I like to treasure trove for fun there sometimes!

I was a party and radio DJ during my college years, so I have a pretty massive collection of vinyl. I don't get much time to listen to vinyl, but on occasion, I will pull out a favorite album and listen.

This was my first turntable...a Dual. Served me during my college years at the dorm room and thereafter. It sits in a rack in my media room now, and since my daughter pretty much rules in there, I don't really get to sit and listen to music as much as I would like.

Picked up the Philips on eBay a couple of years ago. I keep this one in my home office/music studio, where I am more likely to engage in some serious music listening. I have ELO on the platter as I write this!

My friend tells me there is a nice LP place out by Daytona. I'd like to get into the vinyl stuff.

My uncle has a room full of old vinyl from the 80's back.. The collection is basicly his kids college fund.

I still enjoy vinyl records and have many more than CD's. For me, listening to vinyl on a good system is much more relaxing than listening to CD's.

If you're a fiddler and tweaker you'll love vinyl.

I have fond memories of vinyl. I used to save up my lunch money and buy records in high school. They cost $3.15.
