I also think its a 722.6 trannie.

From what I've read the 722.6 is a tough beast. I saw one for sale locally on a pallet, it looks like a 722.3 that took growth hormones and steroids! Its real "thick and buff" looking. All the high-powered vehicles used it because it can handle so much power....on a 603/617 vehicle it'd probably last pretty much forever, since it's rated about 5x the power output of those motors.

The trans that is in your car is fairly robust. Its from the same family of transmissions thats used in cars like the Jag XJ-R, the S65, S55, etc. Many people have over 200k on that trans, with few problems. Its been used for like 10 years, so pretty much all of the kinks are ironed out.

I think its been used on some exotics too, just are not coming to mind.

Just a coincidence no part of a 240D can withstand speeds in excess of 50 MPH.

Finally got a Name

When I didn't close to door all the way and started driving, I got this from my computer screen in the instrument cluster.

Looks waaaay too much like the Hal 9000 unit from 2001 Space Odyssey.

SLR, and Range Rover for a bit.

The 722.6 is a good box, its a 5spd which IMHO I prefer over the new 722.9 7spd. AMG and the high powered cars just started going to the new 7spd gear box in 08 or maybe 09. The 722.6 can handle 500-600 hp without much trouble. They use them on the diesel cars and they last forever, I have seen a few with 250k-300k on them.

Change the fluid, and you have to use MB fluid. If the Jiffy idiots did it I would get the fluid changed at the dealer ASAP!!!

Its going tomorrow, and the put in the proper weight of oil, just partial synthetic instead of full. Each service is based on what the computer says it needs. We'll see what Hal wants.

The car's computer gets confused easily. Just go by the mileage and time specifications and you'll be fine. Your dealer should know this already...
