It seems to be fine so far. UPS is coming to pick the box up at Lenovo's expense.

I've already called my credit card company about the transaction and no other unexpected transactions have occurred.

We'll see how quickly the transaction is removed from my credit card. I need to wait for the box to go through their RMA inspection process and then up to 10 business days for a corrective action to show up in my account.

I hope this is the end of it. I'd rather be out a little of my time, than over $800 for something I'll never use.

I doubt you'd be out $800, could always ebay them, and probably come out with a small loss. That's what I'd do if there was no other way.

When I got scammed by AT&T and they wouldn't let me send my modem back for a refund, I ebayed it, and made more than the refund would have been! So I came out ahead! I was quite pleased. A small winning token after fighting them for 3 months.

The stuff is not bad. We've deployed about 500 machines here in 5 months and have had absolutely ZERO hardware failures of any kind. That's tough to beat.

Back in the early 90s, I played 3 sides against the middle. AT&T and MCI and maybe even Sprint. One would give me $10 to switch and so I would. Well, the company I WAS with would call up and ask me why I did. Told them that MCI gave me $20 and they would quite often match and sometimes even raise. I got up to a $90 check one time. Made a few bucks off that racket.

This brings up a question. People are paranoid about identity theft to the point that some won't even make online transactions. OTOH, when you go to a restaurant and give the hottie with the low cut dress your CC and she goes and runs it, how do you know she didn't copy down your number or memorize it?

You don't know that she didn't record your credit card number. Read about "skimming" - there are even machines that make the job easier.

Yes but it is hard to do in a restaurant. Easier for her to make a write it down or memorize it. I have my 3 major credit cards memorized for instance. Along with the security codes at the back.

Usually, I follow her to the terminal and get my card back when it is done.

Or you could just pay in cash.

Actually, between the wife and I, we seldom have a dollar to our name. Everything is done via debit or credit cards. Makes returns so much easier. I had to return a part and the shop was giving me a headache so Amex told me to put it on the counter and let them take care of it. That and many other incidence have made me go cashless.

Another thing is that when I spend cash, I never know what it went to. After spending $100 I can never fully account for it.

Spoken as by a true Dave Ramsey acolyte.

Not for nothing, but we do pay cash on the rare occasions when we eat in a restaurant - but we do it solely for the benefit of the restaurant. We want this one particular restaurant to stay in business, and it's all the better for them if they don't have to pay the credit card company a cut. It's one of only a few situations in which we routinely pay cash.

I put a gold star over the Security Number on Cards. The kind of star grade school teachers used to put on your papers. If the card comes back with the star altered I get suspicious and start asking questions.
