i have been vegan for about 7 years, my wife has been vegan for longer. before i get into it, i want to state that i'm not THAT kind of vegan. i don't give a ***** what other people eat, i'm not out there crusading for animals in ANY way, my choices are personal, i'm a libertarian, i hate preachers and preaching, and i don't like drum circles or hippy dippy bs. that said, it's stuff like this:

that makes my blood boil and makes me not usually talk about my dietary restrictions (though knowing some privileged trust fund hippy vegans, i understand the sentiment). do i need to prove my f*cked up past to someone to justify what i put into my body? i spent a couple years stealing canned ravioli and beefaroni to eat when my dad split and my unemployed mother was passed out drunk all day and there was no food to eat. so yeah, i know hunger, not that it should mean ***** when talking about what someone chooses to eat. anyway......

it's just recently that my wife and i have been going back a little bit to some dairy and meat, as she has been diagnosed with a mild form of chrones disease. and let me tell you, the diet's been AWESOME!!!

but, the diet itself is great. i felt healthy, energetic, and it forced me to be creative and cook all the time. it stopped me from eating at fast food places and gas stations. it helped finding a girlfriend, now wife, who was vegan for a long time, lived in san francisco and nyc and knew how to cook and create "meat" dishes. we learned quickly how to make and manipulate seitan so we could have chicken wings, chinese food, and all the goodies. and now you can find a substitue for any food that's vegan. cookies, chips, every kind of meat, it's all for sale now.

but, i firmly believe it's a good diet for anyone under 30. your body and it's muscle tissue starts to break down after that, and a vegan diet causes your body to have to synthesize necessary protiens and nutrients out of the combination of foods you eat, which is fine if your body is young and working optimumly. it's hard on an older body to make that happen, and much easier for you to just take your protiens directly from meat.

all in all, it's just healthier to eat lean meats, hard cheeses, fruits and veggies, and whole grains. just like your doctor told you.

rant over. i feel better.

Heh... well it's all good. I have days when I'm vegetarian too, in fact, there are some weeks where I wonder why I even eat meat.

After having a stent put into my right coronary artery,My Dr. gave me a book "The forever Young Diet & Lifestyle".
Basically My cardiologist said I needed to start eating & living in sync with my DNA makeup. Our current DNA has not changed whatsoever over the last 40,000 years, and until recently in history, humans have been hunter/gatherers.
We as humans have developed to gather with some real physical effort, nuts, berries, fresh greens, fuits, roots, tubers, wild grains, fish, birds, eggs, and lean game....anything edible in the wild is fair game. We; like bears are omnivores and are very efficient in turning all kinds of wild foods into energy and fat. When humans killed something they ate all of it; or preserved it. Most everything in the wild is lean.

Fast forward to this century....sit on our asses all day cramming steroid pumped rich fatty meats, refined white flour and sugars of all kinds down our gullets...our bodies & DNA were never made for this kind of food. We are killing ourselves with overabundance & richness.
If you brought a human from 40,000 years ago into this environment; they would do the same thing; stuff their arteries with Hardee's monsterburgers, fried potatoes, salt and corn syrup.

Because of Doctor's orders I am on a hunter/gatherer/Mediterranean diet ...but this neighborhood block is running out of stray cats and dogs... I might have to expand my hunting forays a little farther.... Did you know water gardens contain nice juicy carp?

Actually, I have never dated a vegan girl but if you think about it, go to a steak place. Order a steak and salad. She gets the salad, you get the steak. 2 get fed for the price of 1. And if you get lucky, so much the better.
