I'm not sure what to believe about acorn. If laws were broken then
enforce those laws. It seems that the GOP was/is trying to use the
acorn issue for political gain and that does not impress me.

Our election system is a mess. So many different types of voting machines,
rumors of intentionally long lines in poor neighborhoods, Florida 2000,
electoral college

So, where are these brave souls that Acorn recruits to risk ruining their lives for such a tiny reward?
What is the real risk, especially for an illegal immigrant, especially if the Ruling Party sanctions it as a means to maintain their control?

Do you think the Democrats are so powerful now that people caught committing crimes on their behalf should have no fear of being punished?

Jolly Roger posted the following:In response, MedMech posted an impressive list of allegations of fraudulent activity by Acorn. I read through the material provided by MedMech and didn't see anything that responsed to JR's question. For all of the allegations against Acorn, I still haven't seen evidence that they have caused a single fraudulent vote to be cast. I read the stuff provided by MedMech quickly, so I might have missed it.

I raise this question not in defense of Acorn, but to question the good faith of the mostly Republican people raising the alarm about voter fraud. It seems to me that tougher voter registration laws such as the Indiana law recently upheld by the Supreme Court will cause more harm than good. People who should be entitled to vote will be unable to meet the requirements, we know that for sure, but it is not clear that any fraudulent votes will be prevented.

I have always had trouble understanding how an organization like Acorn could cause enough fraudulent votes to be cast to change the outcome of an election. For one thing, who are these people willing to risk going to jail just for the opportunity to cast a single illicit vote? It doesn't add up.

Based on a google search, I gather that MedMech's list came from a website called "Rotten Acorn" - http://rottenacorn.com/activityMap.html I don't know who is behind that website.
This is how the whole "voter fraud" scam worked: The entire purpose of firing all the US Attorneys back in the Bush days was to pack the Justice Department with political hacks who would prosecute ACORN for a law it was impossible for it to not break. The Repubs had passed a law earlier that required ACORN to turn in all voter registration cards, even the ones that were obviously false, like Mickey Mouse, etc, in other words, even if ACORN knew they were bad, they had to turn them in anyway, inspite of the fact that any idiot knows that ole Mickey would never show up at the polls to cast a vote. In addition ACORN used a lot of poor under-employed people to walk around the neighborhoods, and in many cases, they were forced by state unemployment bureaus to hire people just out of prison. Since these people were paid by the card, a lot of them padded their paychecks by turning in voter registration cards of people who did not exist, once again, a situation where a person would never show up to actually cast a vote. The Rove Machine knew this was going to happen, and the plan was to pursue cases across the country based upon what was and always has been, bull****, in order to derail whomever turned out to be the Dem nominee. It almost worked.

Now that the Republicans have lost, in order to salve the pain of having been beaten by a black man by historic margins, they are continuing this charade, in order to infer that Obama stole the election. The whole thing, as Medmech as proved, is as thin as gruel. Again I ask him, show me one instance where fraudulent votes were cast as a result of the activities of ACORN. Instead you will get the kind of stuff Medmech posted, or they will talk about where ACORN is being "investigated" or any other BS story that makes it seem like they actually have some kind of case against this organization. The real reason they want to destroy ACORN is because they have empowered millions of legitimate voters to vote. Thanks to them, the poor and disadvantaged now have a voice in our democracy, a voice heard loud and clear in the election of Obama, and the Republicans, who count on low turnout, damn sure don't like it. Whatever bad has been done has been far, far outweighed by the good, which is getting people to vote who have been denied themselves the vote by fear and ignorance. So I say, show me the where any of this has had any impact on any election, or STFU.

Do you really think a Mexican immigrant is going to risk being deported back to Mexico to cast a single vote in an election? Risking starvtion for him and his family, for what? You have got to be kidding. And like I said, do you have one shred of proof that one ever did due to ACORN? And I recommend to you that you volunteer to be a poll watcher in your precinct sometime so you can see just how much power a "ruling party" has over elections, both parties have boatloads of people who watch this stuff like hawks, and election commissions do things like match voter rolls to permanent records, etc, and local newspapers have reporters rutting about the place looking for any scandal they can find, not to mention the DNC and RNC who run their own operations to scrutinize ever voter roll they can get their hands on. In the end the real problem Republicans have is denial. How could the election of this Dirty Commie Socialist Nazi have had happened? It must have been "voter fraud".

Perhaps you can explain to us how the Dallas Cowboys cast fraudulent votes. Come on, it should be easy for you to prove, I am sure a lot of them lived eleswhere and voted elsewhere, where are the records that votes were cast under those names in a different precinct? Here is the truth: ACORN was required by law to report those registrations, even tho they knew they were bad, and the first thing the Repubs did and continue to do, is claim "they broke the law". The person who broke the law was the guy who filled out the forms in order to collect money not due to him. ACORN itself did nothing wrong.

I've seen the same thing work in reverse in a South Carolina Senate race where the GOP used college students to perform the same chicanery.
What utter hogwash.

As you can see, their problems are caused because they were legally required to report fraudulent voter reg cards, which they did, the rest of it is a classic set up.

Morris Dees' buddies are getting paid though.

I doubt any sitting AUSAs are interested much in losing their jobs over going after ACORN with RICO
So you think, after the last firing scandal, that Obama would engage in the same kind of shenigans as the Republicans? More utter hogwash. If any AUSA knows of any voter fraud involving ACORN, they are independent prosecutors now, I have no worry they would go after them.
