computer/video question

I recently bought a nifty little helmet cam for pictures while canoeing. It uploads videos fine from the camera to the computer but I'm having trouble transferring the video to a photo hosting site or to someone else. The sample video is about a minute and half long and 47MB. I've been able to upload it to TransferBigFiles.com but when I try to download it, it stops about halfway thru and gives a network error. Same when I try to upload it to Photobucket. It uploads partway and then gives a network error.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong or what the problem might be? I'm teaching a canoeing class this weekend and I was hoping to video the students and post some footage on photobucket so students could critique their styles.

What is the specific network error?

Does the video work when played locally?

Can you view other videos from these same sites with the same computer that is experiencing the problem?

It doesn't say what the network error is. The video works fine locally and I can play videos without a problem from other websites. The computer just seems to get tired of uploading or downloading after a while. When I upload or download small sized pictures there seems to be no problem. It seems to be the lengthy time necessary for the larger video that is causing the problem.

Have you tried a different Internet connection? If not, are you using a DSL line? They are kind of known for that kind of corruption.

It's well above my capabilities. My wife has uploaded numerous videos to YouTube and it looks to be a simple process. She uses a lot of different photo and video hosting sites depending on the purpose but for family videos she uses YouTube. Maybe easier?

I am using a DSL line (I think). I'll have to try a different connection I guess.

Bad information alert. DSL is no different from any other connection in terms of quality. DSL is not "known" for data corruption. I use DSL and a VPN and transfer many GIGS of data both down and up every day, with 0 issues. In fact, DSL is one of the most reliable and proven internet connection types.

Sounds like the real issue might be the file format of the video (47mb for a 1.5 minute video is a bit on the huge side if uploading to a website like that)....and the upload might be getting rejected past a certain file size or time limit.

Try converting it to a smaller file format (MP4....divx....etc) and try uploading it then, the video should only be a few megs in one of those formats). I bet that will solve the issue.

Check and see what your standby/power saving settings are. The computer could be set to go to standby after a certain period of time. Inactivity is usually measured by screen activity, not upload or download activity.
