MB scanner

I was thinking about buying one of the scanners for my mb, and my grandma's car as well. I was looking on ebay, and most seem to need a laptop (IBM T30).
The prices seem to vary greatly. From about $600 with shipping to about $1k+
Here is the search link. Any ideas which one is better??
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?fcid=2&fpos=T0L%202B0&satitle=mercedes+scanner&gbr=1&_trksid=m37&from=R40&save=Save

I have access to several cars. 95 S320, 97 E420, and several other from friends who are diy'ers. I also have an 87 300 SDL, but I dont' think I coudl hook that computer to it.

Any advice from those in the know would be appreciated.

That's one bad-arse system! One that I've been looking at is Auto-Enginuity's MB specific system. It also includes the 38 pin cable but I wonder if it's as powerful? Cost is around $400.

"Enhanced interface for Mercedes (EI17) 1998-2008*1, 2

Our enhanced Mercedes interface supports thousands of sensors and hundreds of bi-directional controls for systems such as DME, EGS, ABS, BAS, SRS, WSS, EWS, CGW, COMBI, DAS, Steering Control, LCP, UCP, OCP, SAM, and dozens more body and chassis controllers. Support includes systems on both the 16pin OBDII and 38pin interfaces.

Live data, bi-directional controls, and trouble code retrieval for the popular M and GL Class (163 / 164), SLK Class (170 / 171), C Class (202 / 203 / 204), CLK Class (208 / 209), E Class (210 / 211), CL Class (215 / 216), CLS Class (219), S Class (220 / 221), B Class (245), R Class (251), G Class (463). Trouble code retrieval only for DAS 3 equipped S Class (140) models currently.

Advanced Features:

* Display Adaptation Value (DME 2.0)
* Display ECU Information
* Reporting Status Byte and SubType codes
* VIN model decoding
* Support for D- and N-Codes

Service Functions:

* Reset ECU (ME2.0)
* Reset Transmission Adaptations (EGS52 and VGS2)
* Reset Service Interval ('03 and earlier with FSS only)
* Reset Oil Service ('03 and earlier with FSS only)
* Rodeo, Pitch, and Roll functions (ABC)"
