Some are refusing to take debit cards as a means of payment/reservation.

What would be a good credit card to have?
Why is Capital One so bad?

Sounds pretty stupid. I guess it assures them they will get paid by visa while visa hunts down the cardholder? I'd just tell the hotel I'll spend my money somewhere that will take my money. Luckily I have not had a problem using my debit card anywhere.

Many companies are not allowing debit cards, over the last 6 months I've encountered several hotels, rental car companies and gas stations don't allow debit cards. |

Store cards are the easiest way to build credit. And you get 10% off whatever you're buying for signing up!
Mine was a Sears card, which I never used after. A year or so later it turned into a Discover card, so I used it for a few months before getting a different card. A couple years after that, it turned into a Discover platinum, which I never used.

OK so is there any reason why Capital One is one of the worst? What are some good card companies?

Question for the Don...
Is your bank a local bank, or one of the mega banks? Local banks often have discretion in these matters; you can go in, sit across the desk from someone and talk with them about your situation. In the maga Banks its often some nameless, faceless dip***** junior account manager in Buffalo who denies your application because it didn't fit his criteria that some other nameless, faceless junior account manager gave him. Deal locally. ( Ask me how I feel about mega banks)

About 2 weeks ago I was with my g/f down in Century City/Beverly Hills and we went to a nice mall there and I bought her two dresses we liked, and the Bloomingdale's clerk said we will give you 10% off if you apply for our credit card.
I said WTH and did it. The bill came the other day. It said the APR if you pay LESS than the minimum amount is 219%. You heard me. Two hundred and nineteen percent. UFB. EFF that place. I am going to pay that one in full, close the account, tell all my friends, and NEVER buy anything there again. A copy of the bill is going to my congressman, what Obama did was just a start, this goes so far beyond greed it is stupendous. It was a weird experience, they began jumping up and down when I tried to take a pic. of the gf in the dresses. Said it's not allowed!!!! LOL Afraid I will sell pic's to counterfeit dress makers in the 3rd world. I hate shopping anyway. Bloomingdale's APR is 24%. Pretty big stroke, if you ask me.

Joe 2 ideas:
1. Have your parents co sign. 2. What about a line of credit to build your credit? Listen to this, say you have $5k in the bank. Go to them and ask for a line of credit at say $2,500, secured by your $5k. Interest should be far lower than a CC. Don't spend the $2,500, just pay the line off after say 6 months. Might be a cheap way to build your credit. What should a line of credit be at a bank these days 4 or 5 percent? Cheaper than a card.

Home Depot had a store card sign up booth the other day, and just for fun I asked about it. They had some super low intro rate which I forget now, but after that I was like whats the rate? The lady was like 22%! ![]() ![]() OTOH what a fantastic way to lend money in a legal manner! 22% is a fantastic ROI.
