I believe Mr. von Brunn intended it as a political act.

Registered firearm?

Upstanding citizen?

I bet he spent 89 years thinking he'd truly fix the world by shooting up a museum with kids and visitors.

I feel for the security guard who didn't have time to get a shot off before he got him

That's not what it is about, there are countless museums for that kind of venture ... and fastfood stores, etc. etc.

It's terrorism right in our own backyard if you ask me.

Terrorism is not just Islamic.

I taught CT classes for police departments and defined terrorism as just that: Any strategy that uses fear as its main weapon.

That started with the Mongol hordes, the Vikings, the Huns, you name it!

We got eco terrorists who burn down ski resorts (and the forests near them) to "keep the land pure." That makes no sense and last year it did about 20 million in senseless illogical enviro damage.

Terrorism is not owned by ONE particular agenda, it can be used by ANY agenda.

I was just gonna say something similar. If that is "Terrorism", then we have a problem existing long before "terrorism" was invented.

And yes, back in those days, the unpopular characters were depicked as "Barbarians". Today, it's the "Terrorist".

Well, here's mine - the right wingers got all incensed when DHS warned of an escalation of right wing violence in this country, and in the past month we have had an abortion doctor gunned down and now this. All this overheated talk on the right is sending those among them who have tenuous grips on reality right over the edge.

Von Braun? Born in 1920? Sad that the security guard died, but what a story.

Just a very sad day.

I feel for the family of the guard who was killed.

I am sad that this nut picked that particular place to go off in.

I am sad that the anti-gun lobby has more ammo to throw at the 2nd amendment

I am sad that the poor people who came to DC to see this museum were in danger and will take back more horror stories of our Capital.

I feel bad for the commuters who had their days messed up more than they are everyday by the street closures around the Holocaust Museum.
Believe me the commute into DC is already one of the worst in the nation and then to have this happen probably caused some stress related heart attacks on the 395

I am sorry that the gunman's family will have to live with what he did today.

I am happy that this guy got what he deserved and has spared the taxpayer's the expense of a long trial.

Terrorism has existed for centuries. I remember hearing an old black bluesman in the south singing shortly after 9/11, singing that Terrorism was not a new concept to him, that he'd known it all his life. It's just the name that's new. I guess they previously called it "extremism" and the terrorists were simply "outlaws"?

His website states that he was admitted into MENSA, in jail, after his 1981 "caper" where he tried to arrest members of the Federal Reserve.
