Re-using TV cabinets

These things are going the way of the dinosaur since most people don't put their flat screens in them. Some of them cost big bucks and are nicely made so its a pity to throw them out.

I'm converting mine into a work area with a slide out desktop and built-in lighting. I'm hanging the computer monitor on the back wall and hiding the CPU and wiring under the sliding desktop. There's plenty of storage below where tapes and components used to go and its all hidden from sight when the doors are closed.

Has anyone else done similar things with their obsolete furniture?

Nice. I'm facing the same problem as I move on to re-building the family room. My entertainment center is a crappy particle board piece though so I think it's going to the dump...

I'm probably going to replace it with something like a bedroom dresser with room underneath for equipment and the flat screen setting on top.

Pix? I've got an old Heathkit 25" TV cabinet that's actually a pretty nice piece of furniture. I'm thinking of converting it into a cabinet of some sort.

There was a TV show on HGTV or something where these 2 guys would go around and take peoples curb side cast offs and modify them and then return them to the people. On one episode they did this to an old TV cabinet. But I don't remember what they made or what the show was called! It was only a year ago. Does anyone remember the name of that show?

We still have a TV in the TV cabinet. Might get one of those new fangled flat screens one of these days.
