What a day.

Gus the new bull decides to go walkabout, one steer heads for the neighbors pasture, a/c condensate drain decides not to, and Dad is in the hospital.

I love this job. Honest!

The bad days make you appreciate the good ones. But in the end, any day above ground is a good one.

I agree any day when you are not seeing the grass from the root side is a good day...

Yep, Gus went next door to where my neighbor has 30-40 stocker steers. I guess he wanted them to know what a real set of ba11s looked like.

Sorry to hear about your dad and hope he is doing better, as for the bull going sight seeing did he not make "the cut" a few weeks back?

Thanks you. He sounds better today than he has in a week...of course, people are basically waiting on him hand and foot, something that doesn't happen here at the farm.

On Gus the bull....
Gus is a new addition to BHF, arriving last Sunday. A registered Black Angus, his job will be to breed our big Red Brangus cows for next year's calf crop while we continue work to establish the long term Devon herd for our grass-fed production and finishing. Gus is used to hanging out (literally) with his brother Black (who was here last year) so he sought herd companionship through the fence to the south (I have him separate form the cows until the end of July) only to find a tribe of eunuchs next door.

"The Cut" you refer to was done on young calves we'll be raising for our all natural, pasture-raised, grass-fed beef product.
