Kitchen Oven Question about heat.

I have a old oven (came with the house) which is about 15 yrs old or so. It's a range oven (I think thats what they are called) with 4 gas burners on top and a oven on the bottom.

When ever we use the oven there is quite a bit of heat given off by the oven. Any pan on the stove will become nearly too hot to hold with out a mitt on.

I am wondering if the newer ovens are better insulated (not looking at really high end stuff but $1000 or so range). I live in TX and the less heat I put in my house the happier I am.

What are you experiences with the newer ovens?

Thanks

My 15 year old sears oven doesn't do that. It almost sounds like your broiler is on? A lot of people like the gas range burners with an electric oven for temp control.

I bought a new Bosch range less than 2 years ago, paid $2200. It's a POS.

Lesson learned, don't buy one with bells and whistles that you'll never use. Should have bought the Kenmore, top rated and 1/2 the price.

My gas stove/oven was built around 1920. Still working fine. No insulation.

Doesn't the oven vent to the vicinity of one of the top stove burners? Are you by any chance putting a pot on top of that burner? It will get hot. Or does it get hot over all the burners?

Agreed on the vent. It's usually in the rear, right hand burner. There's supposed to be a little "chimney" that sits on the opening to direct the heat up into the one single burner but it just sits there and it may, at some time in it's life have shifted allowing the heat to migrate under the range top.

Most gas range ovens vent into or under the center backsplash/control console in fact, on some models you can see the vent, a narrow rectangular opening between the console and the range top. Electric range ovens generally vent under one of the back range top burner elements.

Depending on the oven temp, those places can get pretty hot.

There's nothing fancy about the insulation in any of these units, even self-clean models are just a 3-4" layer of fiberglass batting.

Regarding the heat, don't use the oven in the summer. Go outside and BBQ or Grill or whatever you want to call it.
