Talking Bought a German vehical...

Sadly it doesn't get good mileage, nore is it really fast. But its AWD, has a kick, and the 21st Panzer used to own it. Slightly worn out from some desert sand, but still good.

The half track just doesn't do it for me, not enough power, you know I live in a hilly area. So I picked this up fresh out of the resto shop. The only problem is that the GPS will only take me to two cities, Paris and Moscow. If you know how to fix this I'm all ears!

Nice! Some time in September, I'm supposed to ride around in one of those half-tracks playing the part of a 'panzergrenedier' in a WWII battle re-enactment.

Wow that thing turns really fast (I forget sometimes that it was damn effective for Anti-Air work as well as anti tank)

As for the tank, get with the times

Nice! Where did you get your uniform? I kind of want a uniform recreation from one of the divisions I have read so much about.

If I had an SSK I could play Hans Von Luck.

They even made an action figure out of him, in the famous 21st Panzer.

Many an allied tank fell victom to the 88.

In North Africa Romal used them against tanks more than his tanks.

My friend Nat, who landed at Utah on D+1 had a healthy respect for the German 88. The Hun would place them at crossroads in the hedgerows and aim down the lanes in direct fire mode. Lethal.

A local attraction hosted a reenactment a couple weeks ago of the battle for Caen and featured the repro Tiger that was used in Saving Private Ryan. It makes appearances around here quite a bit; apparently the guy is a midwesterner. I think the only operational *rear* Tiger is at a (Bovingdon I think?) tank museum in England.

I have a pretty complete set of WWII field gear and an M1 Garand and a Carbine. I have been sorely tempted to join the local reenactors group. I just need a pair of brown combat boots and a khaki Garand ammo belt, and I'll be about set!

I can't believe the Chief of the Grammar Police misspelled "vehicle".

I used to have a friend who was a Civil War reenactor--then he discovered WW2, and became a German Tank Commander. They used to do their reenactments at Fort Meade, MD ( between Balt., and Wash DC). The tanks were driven by the National Guard, but he directed it. The rules were that he could only wear the uniform on the base, but it drew salutes all over the base.

I think he was just trying to spell it with a German accent

Owning an 88 would be seriously freaking cool! If unfortunately a bit impractical. I've always been partial to "Kubels" myself. A "Schwimm" would be even better

I have to borrow a uniform. The only one I have is the Swiss outfit that goes with the Unimog.

The meet I'm going to is a place called "Allisons Woods". I hear it's somewhere in NC or SC. I'm just along for the ride with the real heavy hitters so I don't know too much about the event.

I have about 400 pictures of Kubels and Schwimmers from the Kubelcorps reunion a couple years ago. Pretty amazing to ride in some really historical and rare hardware.

My friends have a fully operational Flak 38. Somewhere on youtube is a video of them blowing up some old logs with it out in the woods.

This one always looks cool.

What I have is the British DPM. When I bought it it was still vacuum sealed in the original package. I put it on right away and ran straight into a problem....there is some sort of black powder on the inside of the thing that makes me filthy just by wearing it. I don't want to run it through the washing machine for fear of screwing that up as well. Any ideas on the best way to clean it?

That top one is the uniform I have:

As for the DPM, it looks like it has the same action as GorTex. I'd check out the washing instructions for GorTex and see what they have to say.
