That's really nice. Details we need details. You should put that on the interior forum.

Popping the lock off is the easiest part:

1: Pop the plastic tabs off the door located near the latch. one big, one small
2: Unplug the harness that came out with the big plug
3: Unscrew the allen key in the small hole.
4: Usually, you have to turn your key to actually remove the cylinder, since yours is frozen, you will probably have to wiggle the hell out of it to get it out.

It took me a while just to figure out the posting. I will add it after it is installed proper in my car.

Did your tumbler work OK with the key?
Carefully spray PB-Blaster (PBB) into the cylinder...work the key in and out...the tumblers are stuck in the up/down position as the "hills" of the key are sliding in/out...be careful not to get the PBB on the paint...but keep working it...eventually the pins will get lubed and drop down properly...then keep them lubed (once every two months) with a good quality lock lubricant and stay away from anything w/graphite in it...that stuff is only good on "open" surfaces, not in a closed in area like a lock cylinder...use only a petroleum or oil based lube in those areas and stay away from greases...they tend to "gell" or gum up after a bit. At the first sign of resistance, get out the lube and spray it again...but PBB the lock cylinder first...that will help to "flush out" any grit/grime that will interfer with the pins operating correctly.

Good luck!

Thanks, I will give that a try. I hope it works. It just feels as though you are putting the wrong key in it.

Did that key ever work in the door? If no there is a good chance somebody changed it out along the way and never passed on the (different) key.

That I do not know. A friend of mine purchased this car about three years ago from the Fort Wayne, IN M-B dealer. It was like that when he got it. He sold it to a mutual friend of ours and then I bought it. We have a gentleman's agreement to 'keep it in the circle'. It is just that now I have the one performing many repairs. Oh, well it is fun to drive. I am amazed at how 3L's launches this barged.

Well if the PB doesn't work just put the lock out of the door and visit Ye Ole Village locksmith and have keyed to ignition.
