Someone had the keen idea to do custom "faux-crocodile" inserts, including in the door panels!

I had some fake crocodile shoes when I was younger, and those pair of shoes had about as much wear resistance as those seats!

Needless to say, the interior is going to get a major facelift!!!

Upon closer inspection, I see what you are saying. Did you buy the car?

It would be very esxpensive and difficult to repair the broken euro tail lights.

Just replace with the American style red-at -the - end tail lights.

Even I have my own set of those, I don't know what to do with in the garage, almost new, but the left one has a slightly darkenedbackup light, from the smoke where my valve seals got on it.

If you want them I can take pic's, I don't know. Maybe $80 would get them for you, if you want them.

Thanks for the compliments on my car. I think it's likely they will be collectible some day but I am just enjoying it while I can

Yeah be sure the car is running on a clean US title, so it need not be federalised, which would run about $10,000 BEFORE you jump on it.

I wrote a buyers guide http://www.mbcoupes.com/buyersguide/buyersguide.htm for these cars back in '98, there is even a check off list for them. It has been well received over the years...

I thought that looked like lizard or snake skin in there. Yeah, it certainly did not hold up very well, did it?

Update:

Indie tells me to RUN AWAY AS FAST AS I CAN!!! Figures it will cost more than I care to spend to get it nice.

Also fears that without knowing the history, who knows what has been monkeyed with during its "clandestine" stateside era. From the pics, he also noted that wear and tear was a bit much for a car with what appears to have 76K 'honest' miles (127K km).

Note: He also exclaimed that the euro versions actually came with a 500 not a 560 engine as it is badged.

Actually, I had forgotten that he owns a Euro SEC...but it's sitting on his lot with the engine and tranny out of the car. Can't figure out how he can spend the time getting it dialed in and make any money out of it.

The point being, if I do purchase the car anyway, he will be doing most of the mechanicals...

That interior looks like it's had a lot more wear than 76,000 miles. The original must have been in there for some years anyway. That stuff's something a younger owner ( and one maybe less interested in maintenance) would toss in a Mercedes Benz. Ditto the bling wheels.(just my $.02)
And the engine compartment looks like it's been out in the West Texas sun for a few years. Doesn't have the look of having been well maintained. (just my $.02)
But if the car was from Minnesota, how did it get FL tags. Can You Carfax this car and learn anything about it independently?

Looks like you are staring at the old line about a cheap Mercedes. And your own advisor is skittish!

And some friendly advice from the father of two girls who had their share of dings, dents and totaled cars. Don't put a 16 or 17 yr old behind the wheel of a 5.0 litre or larger power plant. I'd be scared doing that and I wouldn't do it, on any sized chassis. Get her a used ML300. Benz class, lots of steel and safety around her, and not a lot to cry over if it gets beat up some.

G,

If you have w126 coupe fever, and you want something that isn't a rocket, I would look at a late (dual-row timing chain) 380SEC. 0-60 for the Ameri-spec version is about 10 seconds. Price should be south of the 560SEC.

I like it but that monstrosity in the trunk is just a 6 way FAIL.
