Hey all, well my friend went back to Tijuana and visited his mom, and came home with a German Shepherd puppy that he bought over there, he paid 140$ for it and he said it has papers for shots and stuff like that.
He really wants me to come look at it and see it but i'm worried that the dog has parvo and that it might show up, and I DO NOT want to give anything to my dogs. It worries me cause the dog was bought in Tijuana and anyone can make up papers you know? I dunno, should I just go and see it? Or should I give it a few days or something? Parvo just scares me cause it's crazy deadly and like doesn't die when outside its host, it lives and takes years for it to die. What should I do?

I'd just tell your friend you want to hold off for now, and that he probably ought to get the puppy tested and checked at his own vet. I don't know if there's any way to tell whether he actually has or has not received the appropriate shots, but it'd be a good idea to have a vet look him over. He's going to want to have a good vet for the dog anyway, so he might as well establish one right off the bat.
I don't know that much about parvo beyond what I've seen on animal planet, but that's the kind of thing I'd be really paranoid about too. I'm always worried about feline leukemia or feline HIV with my cat, even though it's much less contagious than something like parvo.

I also think he needs to have his new dog checked out at a reputable vet. I would not go to see it until it has a clean bill of health from that vet.
As you said anybody can fake papers over there... When my wife brought her cats back from Tajikistan, they needed to be examined in Tashkent, in Germany (both stop overs) and here.

Naw, we have three dogs and they're all more than a year and a half to two years old. They're puppies at heart LOL

It's not just fake papers. When I lived in Zambia, one of our dogs got parvo (watching him die of it BTW was the worst thing I've ever seen in my life) despite our having seen the vet give the dog the shot. The problem? We didn't see him fill the syringe. In the 3rd world, they'll swap out the medicine for water and sell it the real stuff on the black market.

Sorry to hear you had to go through that. I can't imagine going through that and knowing that it happened because someone did something so low as to fake a shot that could have saved a dog's life (or multiple dogs lives). All I know about parvo is what I've seen on Animal Planet, but that was enough to tell that it's an awful thing to go through, for the dog and the owners.
