"Which was, of course, another driving force behind Polaroid: no trip down to the chemist. As one commenter on The New York Times Lede blog wrote: "I bought a Polaroid circa 1986, the day I got a short note from my corner drugstore, 'Dear customer, We are returning your negatives. We regret the inconvenience, but Walgreens does not print photos from negatives of that nature.'" How many marriages did the discreet Polaroid save? How many did it undo? How many secret passions did the unmistakable clunky click WHIRRRRR document? "

If you wanted "candid" photos in those days, it was Polaroid or your own dark room.
Here's to you Mr. Land.

This is sad news. Just more proof that I am getting old.

I hauled out my old Pentax 35 mm SLR set the other day. Pretty standard set - 3 lenses (standard, wide angle, 80-200 zoom). It has become a relic. I really have no use for it, but I love the sound it makes when I hit the shutter release. I like it because it's mechanical. That doesn't make it better than, or even as good as, our digital camera, but I like it.

Sigh.

I've never used a polaroid....I had a flat 110 cartridge camera when I was little, it actually took some really nice pictures. Then I went digital.

If I'm correct they restart making it again; some art collector from Austria took together with the former plants manager over the old Polaroid factory in Holland. 4x5 55 black and white: Beautiful. The range of the negatives was amazing.

I didn't realized they had stoped making the film I have a nice late 60s Polaroid camera, but I've never taken a picture with it. I can remember using mom's 80s Polaroid when I was younger.

Can't say that I miss Polaroid. Expensive film for mediocre images. Used it mostly, like most studios, as lighting test film on the back of a CM or EL. The SX-70 film's red flesh tone bias was grotesque.
