Yeah 3,000 is a firm price he doesn't want to go over, I've been looking in the 800$-$1,800 range and found some good ones, but I want to make sure he wants to go to Texas too lol I wanted to look for one in a winterized state, with some snow and green trees and beautiful scenery. But then you have rust issues so I've still been looking around. I found some 300E's in Austin that look pretty good for a low price.

I guess if we found an awesome one that he loved for a little over 3,000 then he would budge.

If you want a W126 get a 420SEL. They can be had for damn near nothing and are simple cars.

Why don't you look through the cars for sale section of this site. There is a 300sd in Vacouver and a 300D in georgia for sale, both likely to be within your price range.

I know where you can get a W114 in Nevada

I'll let it go for the cost of getting the tranny rebuilt and back in the car, which looks like around two grand. Did I mention it comes with a rebuilt transmission?

Hmmmm, this is the gasser version right? The one with 130hp? If it is, I'll run it by mah dad and see what he thinks!

Does it have A/C? Is it working? That would be awesome!

I think the W124 is good for reliability and less $$ on maintenance. So far my 300E is proving to be way less expensive to maintain than my 300SD.... Both the W126 and W124 are easy to work on IMHO.

And the M103 gasser seems to be just about as good as a 617....aside from being a gasser, and less low end torque.

I think we're going with a red 300E we found in Long Beach, the owner got in a slight rear end with it and it needs a new left headlight but other than that runs fine, same year as my old 300E too, an 86! We're going to call her again today, i'd be happy with this one. The A/C doesn't work, but she said she was told all it needs is freon.

I was blown away when he told me he wants to look for one out of state because "he wants to take a trip" and I'M TOTALLY DOWN FOR THAT! Our price range is between 200$ (yeah I know...) and I would say 3,000 tops..

I'm pushing for Diesel and he's cool with that, but he's not into the slower models such as the 240D ect and no stick shift because my sister can't drive stick Also it needs to be a four door sedan. Well, I've been looking at 300E's, 300TD's (124 body) and the 91-96 S classes, especially the Diesel ones. Of course, the first state I started looking in was Texas but the Lone Star State is letting me down with a low amount MB's for sale and at high prices... I've been looking all night and I can't decide on a specific model to go with. My dad and I REALLY want the 91-96 S Class but there aren't that many out there and all the Diesel ones are 6 grand and up. The 300E would be perfect but I feel like it'd be a waste driving all the way to Delaware from California for a 300E.. Plus we have to make sure this car is ready to make such a trip across country.

I don't really have time to wait until a good one pops up because we really need another car.. Has anyone ever had a similar situation? Advice? Are there any other models that would do good? Thanks everyone
I think TheDon was looking to sell his diesel and its in really good shape.

Good choice! A red W124 is a sweet ride!

I've owned every gas model of W126... 300SEL, 420SEL, 560SEL. I think the 420SEL is probably the best one of the bunch. It doesn't have the hydraulic rear suspension of the 560 (which believe me, will be expensive and annoying!), yet it has the same gearing as the 560, which is a problem on the 300. The 300SEL is a nice car, but it revs too high on the hwy, slow pickup, yet it gets around the same mileage as the 420.

The 420SEL is the happy medium. It gets about the same mileage as the 300 (decent), and most of the power of the 560, but without getting 8MPG city, and the expensive hydraulic repairs. The best of the bunch are the 89+ models, with their upgraded stereo systems (SO much better than pre-89 cars) and the nicer seats/interior. The pleated leather seats of the older models don't hold up nearly as well as the newer ones, and aren't as comfortable.

I agree that the W126 is the best choice for you! Once you buy one, you will love it, guaranteed! My first W126 completely changed the way I thought about Mercedes (in a good way). In my opinion they have got to be one of the 10 best chassis of all time!
