Rolls Royce- I Need To Know

Help me out here guys, will ya. What is it about Rolls Royce that makes them so expensive, are the engines that good and what is the mystic that still enshrouds( is this a word?) them. I know other English made vehicles are not any good Jag, MG and Rover but the Rolls still seems to be a top contnder.

Jaguar is the highest rated vehicle in reliability by JD power. I assume you are speaking about the older ones?

Has a lot to do with the limited availability and amount of hand work that goes into the car I suspect.

Note: the English also think warm beer is better than cold.

I have driven one Rolls. It was a mid-60s model. Prettiest wood and leather interior I've seen. Otherwise, a total piece of crap. It rumbled down the road and cornered about as well as my friend's old Chevy dump truck. The power windows did not hold the windows shut, so it had a constant whistle going down the road. At the time, the car was about 10 years old and had low miles for a car of its age. It had gone through at least one transmission and had other frequent problems.

I was amazed by the quality of the interior, though. It was a beautiful car until you started it up and tried to drive it.

EDIT: I take issue with your reference to MG as being a bad car. The primary basis for my objection is that 3 of my 5 first cars were MGs and I have extremely fond memories of those days.

Seriously, though, MG is a great name in automotive history. The company kind of fell apart toward the end, but MGs are still my favorite cars of all time.

I always liked old Rolls Royce's the have a smooth ride and like the previous poster said "very classy on the inside". I'd take one They're just pricey

But the thing to remember is, the people who bought these types of cars didn't worry about how much it would be to service, because if you have that kind of money to buy the car in the first place the price of servicing wasn't an issue.

Its the labor. Rolls are massively hand built. Where an average Honda or Toyota might have about 40 or less man hours into its completion, the average Rolls has around 2,000+, from higher paid workers.
