Ken Burns national parks show

Anybody else watching the Ken Burns national parks shows? It's very interesting, learning the history of some of them and of how the national park service came to be. Nobody can animate still photographs and tell a story like Ken does.

I watched it last night, it was interesting the the settlers believed that they were 'redeeming' the land from nature.

I thought that was pretty funny. I had never heard that before. The biography I read of Roosevelt didn't mention that. I thought it was great how infectious his enthusiasm was, John Muir's, too.

It's certainly better than anything else that's on TV these days, but nothing Ken Burns has done has ever approached the "Civil War" series he started with, IMO.

I love what Ken Burns has done mixing still images, current film, interviews and history to portray one of the best things done in America. One the saddest things was to see how much we stole from the Indians and almost wiped out the Buffalo..that one Park Ranger Shelton has the most wonderful way of conveying a scene in the Park it makes me want to stop what I;m doing and go for a walk.

Good stuff. I dug the part about the cliff dwellings in Colorado. Damn, in '92 I drove right past that, well, about 10 miles away on the highway and didn't even know how close I was. I'd love to see that someday.

I haven't had a chance to see much of it, but the parts I've seen have been kind of dry. I guess I expected a bunch of pretty pictures, not so much history. It has, however, got me in a mood to do some camping. I said so to the wife and she said, "Knock yourself out." She works outside all day, everyday. The last thing she wants to do is go camping.

In this part of the country, winter camping is the best.

The show makes me want to go see some National parks I haven't seen yet, like the Grand Canyon....Me and about 200 million other people will be headed there soon.
While At the Nat'l Parks, I like playing the dialect game;...."Hey Kids!, What language are we hearing now?"

They are worth a trip. Lovely scenery all around that area. Not far from there just southwest of four corners are lots of dinosaur tracks in the stone.

I watched about half the show on Monday night. Great stuff!
