I never understood why the morons call the police. Do they think the object is going to commit a burglary on their house? Maybe attack their wife?

I'd just keep the damn thing or send it in for scrap...........you'd get a few dollars for it if it's aluminum (likely).

"Doesn't need the part to fly", other than THAT being obvious, it begs the question, "Well, why is it there?"

Just a little bling to set off their jet? What next? "Fart cans" and maybe some chrome landing wheels?

The plane from "Soul Plane" pops into my mind.

Well, I guess it depends on where the wife is standing...

At least when car parts fall off of cars, they don't have large amounts of potential energy

It's usually a section of flap or a track for the flaps. They are only used on takeoff or landing, and without one, the aircraft is still manageable via use of the ailerons...........think of a tire that's down to 15 psi............you can still steer the vehicle.

Cool! So "flying" is no problem, it's just those persnickety "take-off" or "landing" situations ya gotta worry about!

Landing is always the one certainty about flying. You're gonna land!

Oh, B.S.! The reason you don't live by an airport is because the noise shakes the foam on your glass of suds too much!

Be thankful that an engine didn't fall off............now you've got a problem...........the damn thing weighs too much to just bring to the scrap yard.........you actually have to dismantle it. But, titanium scrap brings some big money.

Soooo, let's say we have a plane cruising at 12 km at 500 mph (223.5 mps). Which do you think is more? Kinetic or potential? Car is clearly kinetic at higher speeds (a muffler, for instance, isn't far off the ground).

I'm not saying it'll do a lot of damage (I don't know the given aerodynamics of said object). I'd be more afraid of jumbo jet losing a tire...

Once the part falls off the airplane, it's the kinetic energy that will kill you.

If the part remains on the airplane, the potential energy is irrelevant.

Yup

I fully understand what you're getting at. But, as I said, when they fall off, not when they hit the ground
