Volvo 740 Reliability

My S600 is about to move onto another lucky owner, so I'm looking at buying a shooter that will last me the duration of grad school (a year). However, I'll be putting on about 400 miles/week.

I spotted this CL ad for an '89 Volvo 740 GLE.

It's the cost of buying good winter tires and doing a few small things to the W123 diesel wagon. Almost seems like a no brainer, plus the wagon will be more salesworthy in the spring. (no additional miles, less wear/tear).

Opinions?
