I always thought it was funny seeing men driving Miata's. It my opinion it's a chick car. Like the cougar.

I don't care if it is a so-called "chick" car. I stopped driving the W210 when I got my NA Miata (1st gen). So boooring in comparison. It just sits waxed in the garage now. The Miata is nimble, fun to drive, great on gas (28 mpg on regular), bulletproof reliable, and parts are way cheap. I have a 65 mile round trip commute each day, and the Miata has put joy back into my drive. I think It's basically a motorcycle with 4 wheels.

The NA is the roomiest of the Miatas. I'm 6 foot 1 and 200 pounds, and have no problem fitting. In the NC (3rd gen) my head barely rubbed one of the crossbars for the top; that tells me the interior dimensions are somewhat smaller.

I paid about $2,000 for mine about a year and a half ago and have put very little into it. I have put about 20,000 miles on it without any major issues.

Chick car or not, they look like fun in a package and since my motorcycle days are long over with, it seems like a Miata would be the next best thing to drive around on nice Sunday afternoons.

I don't need any more maintenance hogs either. I'm damned close to saying adios to most of my Mercedes because I don't have the time or inclinations to to attend to their every need and whim.

How is the miata's automatic transmission? Not for me... wife don't want a manual.

Autos go for next to nothing - nobody wants them. Think about it - 1.6 or 1.8 liter engine. You want to keep the revs up for power. An auto is going to shift way too early.

We're just looking for something for her to drive to give the TDI a break.

I always wanted a Miata, I had an MGB back in the day and the Miata seems like a reliable version of that car. I love small tossable cars and I live in the heart of sports car country with all the winding back roads.

Then you can't go wrong with an auto Miata. They are way underpriced compared to the manual-transmission version. When I was looking for mine, I saw one nice and clean, no rust, well maintained on a used car lot for $2,000. But then I realized it was an auto, so I passed. You could probably find a nice one that won't cost you too much.

Westfield is, more or less, a Lotus 7. The Miata engine just makes it more reliable. Don't get me wrong, I love Brit iron, but it doesnt always work...ask me, I have owned 5 Jags.....

sorry but a convertible BMW or Mercedes is just as gay.
The only car more gay would be a VW cabriolet.

The Miata is definitely not a chick car. To me, it's a modern version of the MGB, which is high praise.

I think so too - I own one. But, I think we are in the minority.

Fortunately for me, I don't really care...
