Edit: No offense to the OP but if he didn't follow the rules or take proper precautions and ship it like he did, who is to blame? I can't blame the cop for ticketing me for doing 56 in a 55. I can gripe if he tickets me for 75 in a 65 while I am doing 70 (assuming the fine or points is more). If you follow all the rules, will there be absolutely 0 problems? Definitely not. No system can assure you of that. That part is basically written off as the cost of doing business. It can reduce the problems but not eliminate them. The OP went with USPS, probably because it was cheaper. Cheaper means you have to expect more problems. I ship with Fedex Ground or Fedex Air depending on your urgency. If you want USPS, I won't ship unless I know you well.
I notice you stated that you are primarily a seller on Ebay. the complaints are coming from the buyers side of things. in addition, Ebay offers only email support, no telephone or call center support. email is rather impersonal and at times, unreliable. Ebay's former CEO has resigned over some of these issues.

No, I am primarily a buyer. I bought 111 things and sold 21 things.

I thought you go via email, live chat and finally phone?

Last time I had an issue, that was it. Have a coffee for me too. I have to shovel snow that the street dept used to block my driveway.

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!

I got a call last week from a collection agency. They are coming after me for the money. I have been paying $10 a payday to Paypal to payoff the debt.

So I saved the dirtbag profile on Ebay. I looked at it tonight for kicks to see what he is selling..........HE IS SELLING MY HELMET!!!!

I am livid right now. It is the holiday and I can't talk to anyone at Paypal until tomorrow morning.

Oooooh, that even makes ME mad! I'd save all the screenshots you can, and collect as much evidence as you can, then contact the guy's local law enforcement (or at least let him know that's what you plan to do). What a sleazeball. Maybe let him know you're going to pass this all along to PayPal, the USPS inspectors, and your/his local law enforcement, if nothing else. What goes around comes around!

I'd be about ready to jump in the car for a roadtrip, I think. Or, wouldn't it be fun to bid, win, and then show up to reclaim it?

I don't think it would hurt to get your State Attorney General involved with this. You have proof it was delivered and what paypal is doing is basically extortion. Send all the docs you have including email copies to their office and explain the situation. You maybe surprised.

Reading this thread makes my hair stand up and gives me a major adrenaline rush. I went through something similar with an outboard motor a few years ago. It was a messed up situation. Still no resolution through PayPal. I even dealt with the local police, BBB and some other services in his area to no avail.

I really hope you can work something out with the post office. Whoever has the helmet is obviously a deadbeat. Sounds like he/she might make their living doing this mickey mouse crap.

I said it before. Since I am a broken record I will say it again. Get the Postal Inspector involved. This is Mail Fraud, a Federal crime. Also report it to his local police, whose jurisdiction he is in, that he is selling stolen goods. Get a case number, then report it to the turds at Ebay. With a police report number they will then be forced to pry their heads out of their buttocks, put down their hookas, and actually do their job.

How far away does the MF live? Bid on the helmet, win it than show up at his house to take it back.

Link to said helmet?

I think this could be fun, raise the price so the ebay auction fee is high for him, then contact paypal about it being stolen, and not wanting to accept stolen property.

Or the more sane thing is to just contact paypal. Have you called them?

Good luck dealing with this MFer

If you ship USPS with insurance, you don't always automatically get 'track and confirm.' BUT, when you go file the claim for a lost shipment, the postmaster at the post office CAN use your receipt/label number to track and confirm delivery. I've had to do this many times.

I already provided Paypal with the insurance number and documents confirming delivery.
