Thanksgiving for Ma
The universe is conspiring to bring folks together for a grand and wonderful day of food, beverage, and celebration for the Ma on Sunday the 29th of November.
We're gonna call it Thanksgiving, calendars be damned. Confirmed head count thus far is sitting at 14; given that this is in all likelihood Ma's final taste of such an occasion, we're looking to fill the house. Any, all, and everyone are welcome. Bring something, bring nothing but a smile, is all good. If you can join us, shoot me a pm. Thank you, welcome to our home, and come get a taste of the craziness that is our life.

Sounds like a great plan, Jim. And a nice gesture on your part for the open invite. We'll be making the rounds this year (usually just go to my parents) to spend some time with my grandmother and my wife's grandmother. Both are in their late-80's and, well, aging and figured we'd better share some holiday time with them while we could.
Everything else aside, I wish you and yours as Happy a Thanksgiving as you can make it! Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you all.

The original "thanksgiving" was a weeklong "bacchanal" and only became a national designated day in 1863 by President Lincoln, but it was for many presidental terms (it was renewed annually) held on the "Last Thursday."
FDR, presumably wanted to help out merchants with some extra holiday shopping days, pushed it back a week to the 3rd Thursday, but not all the states agreed, so by Congressional joint resolution in 1941, in 1942 FDR issued a Presidential proclamation changing it to what it is today. Enjoy your rebuke of commericalism and retro celebration. |
