Quite the opposite, composites are considerably stronger by weight. |

It seems nice, but I love the way the old 747 Jumbo, with it's bulbous roof and nose looks. It just looks so friggin cool, even if it isn't as streamlined.

Pan Am? You are showing a bit of age there.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Saudi petrodollars being invested in Boeing as well.

Probably. My point was that there is really no such thing as an american big company.

If you are 20, you could have flown Pan Am (as an infant), though I'll admit to being a bit older than that.

Well, The 747, just seems to have a certain elegance, even sort of a muscular look to it. Like it's a force to be reckoned with. The old "Air Force One" looked like a joke when they used the smaller ones. Then they switched to the military 747, and it really just appeared to mean serious business. Sort of along the lines of a Russian Typhoon class Nuclear missile boat, or a good old Battleship. It's almost an icon, or symbol of both serious business, elegance, and attitude that simply can't be mistaken for anything else. Though both the Air Bus, and the new 787 are apparently larger, they just don't symbolize to me, what the old 747 does, in some of the terms I mentioned.
Perhaps I'm being a little bit too sentimental, or even too critical about it.

The 777 is an awesome plane, if you ever get the chance to fly on one.

Quiet and smooth. And more leg room. Technically it depends how they lay out the seats but generally more leg room. And the seats are a little wider. I flew one only once and it ruined me for any other airplane. And it is really huge inside. I was in the last row and I felt like I was in a flying gymnasium. Pick the 777, you won't be sorry.
