My Helsinki Smash Rod had a bad smell to it, but the stealership said it had another 5,000, or so, pounds left to it...

What is the actual lifecycle of a new Helsinki Smash Rod and are they actually available anywhere while you're out on the road? Maybe I should buy an extra and keep it in the trunk.

Any thoughts?
