LOL. Most days are chock-full of work ... but Christmas Eve and Christmas are actually pretty slow ... lots of early stuff, wire stuff, featurey stuff. Lots of lulls. And I believe they are going to feed us free Christmas dinner at some point ... a very rare moment of kindness toward us lowly nightsiders.

I'm always on call, whether a tenant runs out of oil, screws up the plumbing, blows a breaker or my mates need an extra horn for studio work.

Thank God life is no more complex than that and I can at least look forward to no-pressure gigs that I can go thru blindfolded.

Not anymore.

For years I managed the group supporting credit card processing for a major processor. I was also one of the 2 senior architects of the software.

So for many years I was on call 24x7x365, even as a director I always took some off hours even at second level. The holidays were our number one critical days so I was always watching, the system notified me of ANY issue's even if the lower level support groups were working on the issue.

Then too for years I did plowing for the village as a backup driver (more a volunteer job although I did get paid), so if there were any storms possible, I had to stay dry and ready.

Thankfully I don't do either anymore.

Lost a lot of Christmas, New Years and even Super Bowl Sundays to one or the other, sometimes both.

well, I'm a little irritated...I was going to sleep in today, and the damn dogs got me up at 5:30, wanting to play in the snow. Anyway, neat little thread, we just need to get through New Years in one piece and we're all set. By the way, I'm on call New Year's Eve evening and all day New Years Day...

No work for me yesterday. I did have to work on Thursday morning though. Since I work at an IT support company, there is really no reason for us to work on days that no one else is working (for the most part). I like working 3.5 days and getting paid for 5.

Out of the last 35 years I have worked probably 30 Christmas days.

Refinerieys and Pipelines never stop, and you can't take your eyes off of them for more than a minute or two at a time.

Nope I'm working for my uncle now and he decided to take off starting wednesday. So no work till monday, and monday I might play hokey to go to cabelas. I'll have to see whats going on, he probably will want to start disconecting utilities at his new beach house so we can demo it. Hopefully its a nice easy day like that.

Nope. I work when and where I want to, and I'm off Thanksgiving until New Years. Usually take most of the winter off - have for a couple and a half decades. Money rolls in whether I'm out there working or not.

Yeah me too. My T-bills are kicking off like $10 a month. And I get .19 every quarter from BofA dividends.
